While Jomar and his brother, Franklin, are on their stoop waiting for Grandpa, friends and neighbors come by--whizzing on skates, showing off their new treads, or bouncing a ball. Whether it's Whassup? or Yo!, Jo's got a greeting for everyone--until Grandpa arrives and only classic words will do: I love you. With a fresh new style, Caldecott Honor-winning illustrator Rachel Isadora fashions an exuberant intergenerational celebration of language, neighborhoods, and family.
A discussion of explosive pulsed power systems and their applications, this book consists of 7 chapters. The first five describe the basic physics of these sources and their ancillary equipment, based on a manual for training engineers in Russia. Chapter 6 is a description of codes and methodologies used at Loughborough University in the UK to build flux compressors, while Chapter 7 covers two specific applications: high power lasers and high power microwave sources. The book introduces all types of explosive power sources and their ancillary equipment, the procedures required to build them, and specific applications.
This volume of new research papers marks the 20th anniversary of the New York Number Theory Seminar (NYNTS). Since 1982, NYNTS has presented a range of research in number theory and related fields of mathematics, from physics to geometry to combinatorics and computer science. The speakers have included Field medalists as well as promising lesser known mathematicians whose theorems are significant. The papers presented here are all previously unpublished.
This book completes a trilogy (Numbers 5, 7, and 8) of the series The Classification of the Finite Simple Groups treating the generic case of the classification of the finite simple groups. In conjunction with Numbers 4 and 6, it allows us to reach a major milestone in our series—the completion of the proof of the following theorem: Theorem O: Let G be a finite simple group of odd type, all of whose proper simple sections are known simple groups. Then either G is an alternating group or G is a finite group of Lie type defined over a field of odd order or G is one of six sporadic simple groups. Put another way, Theorem O asserts that any minimal counterexample to the classification of the finite simple groups must be of even type. The work of Aschbacher and Smith shows that a minimal counterexample is not of quasithin even type, while this volume shows that a minimal counterexample cannot be of generic even type, modulo the treatment of certain intermediate configurations of even type which will be ruled out in the next volume of our series.
Extensive discussions and clear examples, written in plain language, expose students to the rules and methods of probability. Exercises foster problem-solving skills, and all problems feature step-by-step solutions. 1997 edition.
Mobile Robotics presents the different tools and methods that enable the design of mobile robots; a discipline booming with the emergence of flying drones, underwater robots mine detectors, sailboats robots and robot vacuum cleaners. Illustrated with simulations, exercises and examples, this book describes the fundamentals of modeling robots, developing the actuator concepts, sensor, control and guidance. Three-dimensional simulation tools are also explored, as well as the theoretical basis for reliable localization of robots within their environment. - Illustrates simulation, corrected exercises and examples - Explores different tools and methods to enable you to design mobile robots - Features three-dimensional simulation tools as well as the theoretical explanation
The author weaves a suspenseful, dramatic, historical saga of ambition, love, murder, and one family's tragedy and triumph through the latter part of the Civil War. There are several intriguing twists in the plot: cowardice, obsession, hypocrisy, from dual simulation, that surprise and challenge the family of their leader caught up in their two worlds of avarice, rapacity, insatiable greed and lust. While the war ravages on amid the stormy, personal lives of the people, while we see those depredations only add to the mayhem, we are reminded there are no pristine priests. Still, this book is very inspiring to anyone whose Christian ideals are beyond compromise.
