Seven years into the 2030 Agenda, there is an urgent need to understand where the world stands in eliminating hunger and food insecurity, as well as in ensuring sustainable agriculture. FAO's new report, “Tracking progress on food and agriculture-related SDG indicators”, offers analysis and trends on indicators across eight SDGs (1, 2, 5, 6, 10, 12, 14 and 15), highlighting areas of progress and areas where further effort is needed. Available in digital format, this year’s edition also discusses selected indicators for which FAO is a contributing agency and/or have key implications for food and agriculture across these Goals. During 2022, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) jointly undertook a project to identify and assess research and data from four Southeast Asian countries related to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicator 14.4.1 – the proportion of fish stocks within biologically sustainable levels. The goals of this project were: (1) to increase the visibility of research and datasets by making them searchable on OpenASFA, a system for creating, storing and publishing abstracts and bibliographic references; and (2) to analyse knowledge strengths and gaps in the region and make recommendations for improving the accessibility of research and data. This document presents the final report of the project, including the methodology, results and recommendations for future work.
The Guidelines for action on food loss and waste reduction in the Near East and North Africa provide support to Member Countries to implement the Voluntary Code of Conduct for Food Loss and Waste Reduction, an international instrument designed to guide FLW policymaking and interventions at global level. These regionally-tailored Guidelines offer a basis for developing national strategies, policies, and legislation enabling food loss and waste reduction in line with national agrifood system objectives of NENA countries. The actions and principles put forward herein have the ultimate goal of accelerating the region’s transition to sustainable and resilient agrifood systems.
