This report reviews the development of the desktop computer and workstation for scientific data analysis and develops the basic concepts of connectivity, processing power, high-resolution graphical displays, and large local data storage that support the creation of the scientific workstation approach to geophysical data analysis. The report reviews the capabilities of the basic Z-248 configuration and identifies key enhancements in memory expansion, high resolution displays, added storage, and networking capabilities that can turn the Z-248 into a scientific workstation.
