Excerpt from The Teaching of Jesus Concerning the Future Life It is impossible to think that they were wholly mistaken in testifying that these were the teachings which Jesus had com mitted to them. So far forth as they present a formulated theology, one of its staple doctrines is that of a future life, and of Jesus as dominating the future life. And even more marked, if that were possible, is the testimony they give in the form of indirect statements and impli cations. Directly and indirectly their theme is Our Saviour Christ Jesus, who abolished death, and brought life and in corruption to light through the gospel (ii Tim. I. We tend to look to the New Testament to tell us about Jesus, yet it was the Old Testament about which Jesus said, “the Scriptures point to me!” In The One Year Book of Discovering Jesus in the Old Testament, Bible teacher Nancy Guthrie takes readers from Genesis through Malachi, shining the light of Christ on the promise of a descendent who will put an end to the curse of sin; the story of a father who offers up his son as a sacrifice; the symbol of a temple where people can meet with God; the prophecy of a servant who will suffer; the person of a king who will rule with righteousness—and so much more. Day by day throughout the year, readers will see the beauty of Christ in fresh new ways, creating a deeper understanding and appreciation for who Jesus is and what he accomplished through his Cross and Resurrection.

Excerpt from The Teaching of Jesus Concerning God the Father The picture of a world without God is horrible to contemplate. A world without God in fact would be either chaos or death. An orderly world is not possible apart from mind and a mind commensurate with so vast a problem. To admit that mind is to admit God. But the world can be without God even if God exists. Excerpt from The New Message in the Teaching of Jesus Ever. Draws from them, brings fresh life. The ebb brings new tasks; what the tide brought up, it collects, preserves, works up. In the place of production comes reproduc tion; the new is conserved, finally it be comes old, being long possessed, and the times gradually become ripe for the prophet, for the genius, who is to lift himself up and the times with him to a new development. Jesus descended from Israel's soil. One can hardly think too realistically of this, how much he was inwardly connected with the religious peculiarity of his people and their laws of development. He grew up under the influence of the ancient, sacred authorities of his people, the Scripture, the cult, the entire religious order of life and mode of thinking. These influences were especially strong about him. For according to its general nature the time of Jesus be longed on the whole to the more conserva tive and reproductive periods of Israel's his tory of religion. The synagogues were above all the places where the religious life of the Jews was moulded and fostered; in the synagogue, however, ruled the scribe and he was the keeper of tradition. No public. Excerpt from Teacher's Manual for the Teachings of Jesus Two great ideas underlie the Kingdom of God Series. The first is the idea of the Kingdom. There is a Kingdom that is more than church in this world or heaven in the next; it is the new earth in which the Spirit of God shall rule men's hearts and homes, in which the good will of God shall be done in the factory and on the street, in the nation and among the nations of the earth. Back of these studies is the great thought that such a new world is coming. The second great idea is that this Kingdom is a development. God is growing a world just as we see him growing Christians round about us. That this is God's method we can see by looking at the world round about us: God does not make things over suddenly by an outside force, but works gradually and from within. In other words, it is the principle of life working from within rather than a machine working from without. The Bible shows us that this has been his way in the past. We trace there God's increasing revelation of himself to men, and his increasing gift of his life in men. In all your teaching of this course be sure to have these two great ideas stand out clearly before the class. See that they grasp its point of view at the very start. The first year of this course considered the development of the Kingdom as shown in the Old Testament. Now we come to the central and supreme event in this story of the Kingdom, how God perfectly revealed himself in Jesus Christ, and how with Christ there began the new epoch in the making of the new earth. The Teacher's Preparation Two steps are necessary in the preparation of every lesson by the teacher. He must first master the material of the lesson; he must then plan how to teach it.
