Daughter of the Forest is a testimony to an incredible author's talent, a first novel and the beginning of a trilogy like no other: a mixture of history and fantasy, myth and magic, legend and love. Lord Colum of Sevenwaters is blessed with six sons: Liam, a natural leader; Diarmid, with his passion for adventure; twins Cormack and Conor, each with a different calling; rebellious Finbar, grown old before his time by his gift of the Sight; and the young, compassionate Padriac. But it is Sorcha, the seventh child and only daughter, who alone is destined to defend her family and protect her land from the Britons and the clan known as Northwoods. For her father has been bewitched, and her brothers bound by a spell that only Sorcha can lift. To reclaim the lives of her brothers, Sorcha leaves the only safe place she has ever known, and embarks on a journey filled with pain, loss, and terror. When she is kidnapped by enemy forces and taken to a foreign land, it seems that there will be no way for her to break the spell that condemns all that she loves. But magic knows no boundaries, and Sorcha will have to choose between the life she has always known and a love that comes only once. Juliet Marillier is a rare talent, a writer who can imbue her characters and her story with such warmth, such heart, that no reader can come away from her work untouched. Who were Tubalcain, Aholiab and Zabud and what is their significance for the Freemason? There is a general interest in the rituals of Freemasonry, generated in part by the apparently obscure references they contain. This is the only book that offers a guide to the stories used in Masonic ritual and their links to the Bible and Christianity. The new Mason is directed to a 'serious contemplation of the Volume of the Sacred Law' — but that is easier said than done without a grounding in the Scriptures, something that fewer and fewer people have. The historical and geographical setting of the Bible is explained here, making such contemplation easier for Mason and non-Mason alike. Mike Neville has systematically cross-referenced the most influential Chapters of the Bible to the ceremonies. It is his intention to get Freemasons to understand the ritual — not just to memorise and regurgitate — as well as to elucidate for the non-Mason. Sacred Secrets will aid the clergy, theologians and any other person interested in Freemasonry to see the links between ritual and scripture.
This early work by Radclyffe Hall was originally published in 1928 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. 'The Well of Loneliness' is a novel that follows an upper-class Englishwoman who falls in love with another woman while serving as an ambulance driver in World War I. Marguerite Radclyffe Hall was born on 12th August 1880, in Bournemouth, England. Hall's first novel The Unlit Lamp (1924) was a lengthy and grim tale that proved hard to sell. It was only published following the success of the much lighter social comedy The Forge (1924), which made the best-seller list of John O'London's Weekly. Hall is a key figure in lesbian literature for her novel The Well of Loneliness (1928). This is her only work with overt lesbian themes and tells the story of the life of a masculine lesbian named Stephen Gordon.
Now safely home from their trip to the Militant Nation, Cecily, Luke, and the others return to their everyday lives. However, the Independent Trade City of Housman is soon struck with increasingly strong earthquakes, signaling that the time of Valbanill's reawakening draws near. The pressure only continues to grow as Luke and Cecily learn of the Campbell family's secret curse: the Sheath of the Sacred Blade. Can Luke help change Cecily's fate by forging the true Sacred Blade before it's too late?
Trapped underneath Blair Volcano, Luke and Ewain find themselves inside an icy cavern where a mysterious sword stands firmly planted into the ground - until an earthquake dislodges the blade, hastening the breaking of Valbanill's seal and the legendary Inhuman's awakening. A replacement blade must be placed in its stead immediately, for Valbanill has already begun to stir... The pair is saved by a rescue party led by Cecily, and Luke must make a choice: to either allow Cecily to become the Sacred Blade's Sheath and suffer the fate of her grandfather, or to forge a true, durable Demon Katana at great personal cost to both Lisa and Luke. Will Luke find the strength and courage to save the woman he loves, as he stands once more before the Inhuman Valbanill?
As the Independent City of Housman prepares for the imminent awakening of the inhuman Valbanill, the original Sacred Blade appears at Atelier Liza in her human form, freed from her duty by Luke and Cecily's recent reinforcement of the seal. She reveals to Luke, Cecily and the rest of the group the last key pieces of information that they need in order to create a new blade and reseal Valbanill. While the process would consume the last remains of the Demon Blade Aria, reviving her as the new Sacred Blade, it would condemn her to a lifetime of centuries under Blair Volcano, alone in the darkness. As Cecily wrestles with this bitter knowledge of what she must do, the people of Housman plan for a very special wedding...
Once, a demon-driven war raged across the continent. Now, as the Imperial Crowd Power invades the Independent Trade City, the threat of conflict has returned. Though the City's forces make a valiant stand against the Imperial armies, the sheer number of incoming Demon Blades puts the City on the defensive. As the fight reaches a furious pitch, Siegfried and Luke clash, while Cecily faces off with Valbanill. The final battle has arrived!
