When the very notions of fact and history hang in the balance, is the world ready to embrace the hardest truth of all, that we are not alone in the universe? When John and Lisa receive a repeating pulse from another world at the mountaintop research center where they work, they realize that it is not simply false data; it is far too regular and enduring. Suddenly the long-awaited possibility of extraterrestrial life seems imminently plausible.
Some of these stories are a result of my one time membership in the Columbus Cooperative writing club in Columbus, Ohio. Some, just because I like to write. The Reindeer Games short story was a contest in the Medina Journal with the first part of the story being written by a journalist, Hilary Bernstein, an editor from that newspaper. I finished the story and received first place in the adult category of the competition. Each of the stories reflect beliefs I have about life and have many elements of truth in them. The short story The Prayer, is based on actual events in my life in 2003. I relayed all that happened, exactly as they happened. Though some of the characters have family names, I simply used them because they were familiar. If you like a good short story, I believe you will enjoy these little trips into my mind. I would like to thank my wife, Terri, who has always supported my artistic endeavors. Now, go and get lost in one of my stories.
This is a four-movement work for woodwind trio based on a solution to a sudoku puzzle. The puzzle was number 101 in the book, thus the name Sudoku 101. It is in contemporary style with the tones selected for tone rows by the puzzle's solution.
In the vastness of space there are the Watchers. Who are they? Where did they come from? Those are the questions the Family of Man would like to answer. The Watchers are an enigmatic race that controls the universe in ways unknown to the Family of Man. They made their presence known only a few times in the history of the Family of Man. Popping in and out of existence, they offer aid and ideas at critical times. They brought a faction of the Family of Man back to their Homeworld to recolonize and develop what they feared had been destroyed by their sun. Humanity had gained their attention when nuclear weapons had been launched in space near Jupiter, an incident that could have changed the history of the human solar system. Come along with Aiden and Stovan as they attempt to discover the truth about these entities called: The Watchers.
In the vastness of space there are the Watchers. We have been on there radar for eons. As a doctoral candidate, Hinrik has been studying the ancient monoliths on Easter Island. What he finds will change the very nature of our known universe and our relation with the Family of Man. Back at the Science Institute, Hinrik's discoveries and a new message from the Obelisk, evolve into mankind's first space warp drive. The Alcubierre formula leads to a new space race, one that involves General Schuster. Who will win this race? The future, again, is in orbit around the gas giant, Jupiter. Schuster is prepared to fire nuclear weapons to stop the meeting with another alien race. Is the Family of Man doomed to the xenophobic fears of one man, or, is the Human Race on the verge of a newer and stranger future in their Reach Beyond Tomorrow?
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The classic work that predicted the anxieties of a world upended by rapidly emerging technologies—and now provides a road map to solving many of our most pressing crises. “Explosive . . . brilliantly formulated.” —The Wall Street Journal Future Shock is the classic that changed our view of tomorrow. Its startling insights into accelerating change led a president to ask his advisers for a special report, inspired composers to write symphonies and rock music, gave a powerful new concept to social science, and added a phrase to our language. Published in over fifty countries, Future Shock is the most important study of change and adaptation in our time. In many ways, Future Shock is about the present. It is about what is happening today to people and groups who are overwhelmed by change. Change affects our products, communities, organizations—even our patterns of friendship and love. But Future Shock also illuminates the world of tomorrow by exploding countless clichés about today. It vividly describes the emerging global civilization: the rise of new businesses, subcultures, lifestyles, and human relationships—all of them temporary. Future Shock will intrigue, provoke, frighten, encourage, and, above all, change everyone who reads it.
