Beside the many members of the various branches of the family who have contributed valuable material to the work, the following antiquarians are entitled to my thanks for their kind assistance in matters relating to the colonial and revolutionary periods: Hon. Gysbert Opdyck was born in Wesel, Germany in 1605 and immigrated before 1638 via The Netherlands to New Amsterdam. He married Catherine Smith in 1643 and moved to Newport, Rhode Island in 1664.
