Yesod, the ninth Sephirah on the cabbalistic Tree of Life, is the symbol of a pure life. Purity has long been considered as privation leading to repression or perversion... a living death. Master Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov dispels this erroneous concept of purity by showing it to be a rich and creative way of life (although unknown and untried at the present time), founded on a precise knowledge of the psychic, spiritual life. Taking purity as the basis of his spiritual teaching (Yesod means ‘base’ in Hebrew), Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov renews in our times the sense and significance of the ancient initiations enriched by his own innumerable discoveries. He has personally practised and experimented at length with the rules and exercises he proposes for our use ; their purpose is to liberate man and awaken in every fibre of his being the vital, harmonious forces of divine Life. The Mysteries of Yesod proves to us that the life of a great spiritual Master is like the River of Life in that it purifies all who come near him.

First published in 1587, Moses Cordovero's now classic introduction to Kabbalah, Or Ne'erav, was intended to serve several purposes; it was meant both to provide a justification for the study of Kabbalah and to encourage that study by providing detailed instructions for interested laymen on how to go about that study; indeed, it was intended as a precis of Cordovero's much larger Pardes Rimmonim. In many ways, Cordovero was ideally suited to compose such a work. His teacher of rabbinics was no other than R. Joseph Caro, author of the Shulhan Arukh, which rapidly became the halakhic code par excellence. His master in Kabbalah was Solomon ha-Levi Alkabetz, whose sister he subsequently married. The result of his studies with both was no less than a kabbalistic "code", a systematic kabbalistic theology of the Zohar, the basic text of Jewish mysticism. But this work was too large, and too complex to be easily mastered. Moreover, it assumed too much previous knowledge to serve as an introduction to the subject; hence the need for Or Ne'erav. Or Ne'erav succeeded in fulfilling all these purposes, and has remained a classic introduction to the study of Kabbalah - and is used as such to this day. Dr. Robinson's accurate but readable translation is the first English rendition of this essential work. -- Back cover.
This Volume is a compilation of 196 letters from Eliphas Levi to three different students: -1 letter to Mme. Hutchinson -10 letters to Mr. Montaut (also known as ""The Elements of the Kabalah"") -185 letters to the Baron Spedalieri These letters cover a variety of subjects and are presented in a Bilingual format (English side-by-side with the original French) with copious footnotes and illustrations to help the student grasp the subject matter. Although many of these letters have been published in English before, this is a new translation of them all. This collection is a wonderful way to see into the heart of the Author and contain insights into his Transcendental Philosophy. ""The effect which I await for you (from my epistolary lessons) will be the understanding of my books which contain the whole doctrine, but in an abridged and succinct form.""

What makes this book different from the others is that it: Provides instruction on reading both the Major and Minor Arcana Explains why the cards are the cards, why each picture forms part of a sequence, and why they occupy a mystical place in our consciousness Gives a balanced and informative perspective on each of the cards, as well as an overview of the entire deck Provides a history of the tarot Connects the tarot to the Qabalah Dee is a life-long tarot reader and historian. He traces the spiritual origins of the cards from Celtic mythology and Hebrew mysticism to Renaissance theatrical productions and the stars and planets of astrology. He also examines how past scholars thought about the tarot and how that thinking has changed to make the cards meaningful for today's readers. This wide-ranging primer provides readers with everything they need to know about the tarot and provides fresh insights into the cards. An illustrated edition of this title was published by Sterling in 2003.

‘Human beings come and go, work and play, and busy themselves with all kinds of things, never realizing that their life is growing dim and dirty because they do nothing to protect it. They think that the life they have received is theirs to dispose of, and that they have a right to use it for pleasure or to become rich, learned or renowned, as they please. So they draw on their reserves without restraint until, one day, they find themselves utterly spent and obliged to abandon all their activities. It is completely senseless to behave like that for, once we have wasted our supply of life, we have no other resources to fall back on. ‘The Sages have always said that the only thing that is essential is life itself, and that we must protect, purify and sanctify it and eliminate whatever may hinder or prevent it from developing. And, if we do so, life will give us everything else: health, strength, power, intelligence and beauty – everything! The highest form of magic, the highest form of White Magic is to lead a pure, luminous life.’ Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov
