The Classic Thomas Troward Book Collection (Deluxe Edition) - The Hidden Power And Other Papers On Mental Science, The Creative Process In The Individual, The Law And The Word, The Edinburgh Lectures On Mental Science, The Dore Lectures On Mental Science - Thomas Troward - The Hidden Power And Other Papers On Mental Science (First published in 1921): When we once realise that this universal and unlimited power of spirit is at the root of all things and of ourselves also, then we have obtained the key to the whole position; and, however far we may carry our studies in spiritual science, we shall nowhere find anything else but particular developments of this one universal principle. - The Creative Process In The Individual (First published in 1915): Getting things into a better order is the great secret of progress. What we are seeking, therefore, is to discover how to arrange things in such an order as to set in motion a train of causation that will harmonize our own conditions without antagonizing the exercise of a likepower by others. - The Law And The Word (First published in 1917): People are beginning to realize that Thought is a power in itself, one of the great forces of the Universe, and ultimately the greatest of forces, directing all the others. Thought is the great power of the Universe. But to make it practically available we must know something of the principles by which it works. - The Edinburgh Lectures On Mental Science (First published in 1909): The Spirit of Life seeking expression in individual lives can have no other intention towards them than "that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." To suppose the opposite would be a contradiction in terms. - The Dore Lectures On Mental Science (First published in 1921): The Spirit is that which gives life and movement to anything, in fact it is that which causes it to exist at all. The thought of the author, the impression of the painter, the feeling of the musician, is that without which their works could never have come into being, and so it is only as we enter into the IDEA which gives rise to the work, that we can derive all the enjoyment and benefit from it which it is able to bestow. New Thought, then, is not the name of a particular sect, but is the essential factor by which our own future development is to be carried on; and its essence consists in seeing the relation of things in a New Order.
The purpose of this book is to indicate the Natural Principles governing the relation between Mental Action and Material Conditions, and thus to afford readers an intelligible starting-point for the practical study of the subject of Mental Science. The Hidden Power, and Other Papers upon Mental Science is a collection of New-Thought essays by Thomas Troward. Troward was an English writer whose works inspired the New Thought Movement and mystic Christianity. Excerpt: "There is a very general recognition, which is growing day by day more and more widespread, that there is a sort of hidden power somewhere which it is within our ability, somehow or other, to use. The ideas on this subject are exceedingly vague with the generality of people, but still they are assuming a more and more definite form, and that which they appear to be taking with the generality of the public is the recognition of the power of suggestion. I suppose none of us doubts that there is such a thing as the power of suggestion and that it can produce very great results indeed, and that it is par excellence a hidden power; it works behind the scenes, it works through what we know as the subconscious mind, and consequently its activity is not immediately recognisable, or the source from which it comes."
The Edinburgh and Dore Lectures on Mental Science are required reading for anyone wishing to understand and control the power of the mind. Without these lectures the New Thought Movement and The Science of Mind might never have been born. Thomas Troward was an early New Thought writer who had an immense impact on those who would follow. Ernest Holmes Frederick Bailes Joseph Murphy and Emmett Fox cited him as a major influence and Genevieve Behrend was his student. It is impossible to over estimate his importance to the New Thought movement. His intense fusion of Eastern and Western philosophy is unmatched.
The early "New Age" philosophy of New Thought, which was wildly popular at the turn of the 20th century, owes much of its emphasis on the concept of "mind over matter" to the works of Thomas Troward. In this two-in-one volume, which brings together two of Troward's celebrated books on "mental science," the author-who was renowned for presenting difficult ideas with clarity and enthusiasm-discusses: . the higher mode of intelligence that controls the lower . the unity of the spirit . the subjective and objective minds . the law of growth . intuition and the will . the subconscious mind . individuality . the creative power of thought . and much more. First published in 1909, Troward's writings remain of immense interest to anyone interesting in personal spiritual development. English judge, philosopher, and painter THOMAS TROWARD (1847-1916) lived most of his life in India, in the service of the imperial monarchy. Among his publications, many of which profoundly affected the New Thought movement, are The Law and the Word, Bible Mystery and Meaning, and The Hidden Power and Other Papers Upon Mental Science.
The Hidden Power (And Other Papers Upon Mental Science), by English judge, author, and New Thought advocate Thomas Troward, and was originally published in 1921.The Hidden Power is a collection of Thomas Troward's essays on New Thought, and other areas of mental science. and is one of the most in depth texts on the topic of thought-creation, spiritual manifestation, and the Law of Attraction. Troward goes into great detail about the negative uses of these concepts, believing there is a karmic result for negative thoughts, and writes on to how to protect one's self from these forms of manifestations. Whilst these concepts sound at face value New Age, Troward comes at them from a very Christian perspective, with clarity and gentle beautiful language. The book also includes the famous essay the Spirit of Opulence. The idea which consists in cultivating the feeling that we possess all sorts of riches which we can bestow upon others, and which we can bestow liberally because by this very action we open the way for still greater supplies to flow in.
