This book comprehensively covers a range of pathological cases in clinical cardiology. Chapters are case focused and detail how a patient is diagnosed and treated in a step-by-step format. A range of engaging video clips enhances the reader’s appreciation and understanding of how to apply these techniques into their day-to-day clinical practice with special focus on congenital heart disease diagnosis and management. Case-Based Clinical Cardiology presents a range of clinical scenarios across all cardiology disciplines with a particular focus on echocardiography, electrocardiography and cardiac catheterization. Therefore, it is an ideal resource for both the novice and experienced cardiology practitioner seeking an up-to-date selection of cases to test their knowledge.
In this issue of Heart Failure Clinics, Guest Editors Giuseppe Limongelli and Eduardo Bossone bring their considerable expertise to the topic of rare cardiovascular diseases. Top experts in the field cover key topics such as coronary artery dissection, genetics in congenital heart disease, HCM in Rasopathies, and more. - Provides in-depth, clinical reviews on Rare Cardiovascular Diseases, providing actionable insights for clinical practice. - Presents the latest information on this timely, focused topic under the leadership of experienced editors in the field; Authors synthesize and distill the latest research and practice guidelines to create these timely topic-based reviews. - Contains 17 relevant, practice-oriented topics including The influence of genotype on the phenotype, clinical course, and risk of adverse events in children with Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; Unravelling the genetic background in heritable and non-heritable BAV: a long roadmap; The risk of sudden unexpected cardiac death in children: epidemiology, clinical causes, and prevention; The renal involvement in patients with storage and infiltrative cardiomyopathies; and more.
microRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that regulate various biological phenomena, such as development and homeostasis. The dysregulation of miRNA leads to disease progression, particularly of cancer. In Circulating MicroRNAs: Methods and Protocols, expert researchers in the field detail recent advances in the isolation, purification and analysis of circulating miRNAs from a variety of sources for research. The book is divided into three main topics. The first section involves the study of secretory miRNAs in cell-cell communication, and the second, the study of circulating miRNAs in body fluids. The last describes the novel techniques used to study circulating miRNAs. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular BiologyTM series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and key tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and practical, Circulating MicroRNAs: Methods and Protocols seeks to aid scientists in dealing with the recent advances of RNAi technology from the bench to the bedside.
In the past two decades a number of studies have shown that abnormalities in the function and structure of coronary microcirculation can be detected in several cardiovascular diseases. On the basis of the clinical setting in which it occurs, coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) can be classified into four types: CMD in the absence of any other cardiac disease; CMD in myocardial diseases; CMD in obstructive epicardial coronary artery disease; and iatrogenic CMD. In some instances CMD represents an epiphenomenon, whereas in others it represents an important marker of risk or may contribute to the pathogenesis of myocardial ischemia, thus becoming a possible therapeutic target. This book provides an update on coronary physiology and a systematic assessment of microvascular abnormalities in cardiovascular diseases, in the hope that it will assist clinicians in prevention, detection and management of CMD in their everyday activity.
Brugada Phenocopy: The Art of Recognizing the Brugada ECG Pattern details all aspects associated with alternative diagnosis to Brugada Syndrome (BrS). Coverage includes how to identify the proper ECG pattern, what to do to investigate for BrP, and how to avoid misinterpretations and the use of unnecessary and expensive treatments. Chapters are written by experienced professionals, many of whom are colleagues that initially described this condition. This easy to use volume is a must have reference for researchers of cardiology, cardiologists, electrocardiologists, internists, emergency care doctors and students, residents and fellows. - Assists in the proper recognition of the Brugada ECG patterns and how to distinguish true BrS from other conditions with identical ECG - Expands understanding on how to properly recognize the ECG of Brugada patterns - Contains access to a companion website with video to enhance understanding of proper measurement of the beta angle (Chevallier) and the base of the triangle (Serra)
For many years, there has been a great deal of work done on chronic congestive heart failure while acute heart failure has been considered a difficult to handle and hopeless syndrome. However, in recent years acute heart failure has become a growing area of study and this is the first book to cover extensively the diagnosis and management of this complex condition. The book reflects the considerable amounts of new data reported and many new concepts which have been proposed in the last 3-4 years looking at the epidemiology, diagnostic and treatment of acute heart failure.
This issue of Heart Failure Clinics examines co-morbidities in patients with heart failure. Topics include hypertension, diabetes, pulmonary disorders, cardiorenal syndrome, anemia, depression, atrial fibrillation, obesity and cardiac cachexia, peripheral vascular disease, rheumatologic disorders, co-morbidities and polypharmacy, coronary artery disease, and clinical trials.
