A major new investigation into the Bhutto family, examining their influence in Pakistan from the colonial era to the present day The Bhutto family has long been one of the most ambitious and powerful in Pakistan. But politics has cost the Bhuttos dear. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, widely regarded as the most talented politician in the country’s history, was removed from power in 1977 and executed two years later, at the age of 51. Of his four children, three met unnatural deaths: Shahnawaz was poisoned in 1985 at the age of 27; Murtaza was shot by the police outside his home in 1996, aged 42; and Benazir Bhutto, who led the Pakistan Peoples Party and became Prime Minister twice, was killed by a suicide bomber in Rawalpindi in 2007, aged 54. Drawing on original research and unpublished documents gathered over twenty years, Owen Bennett-Jones explores the turbulent existence of this extraordinary family, including their volatile relationship with British colonialists, the Pakistani armed forces, and the United States.
With these questions in mind Professor Kapur charts the continuous power struggles of Pakistan's ruling elites. Using a historical and comparative approach he shows how the search for democracy and national identity has been hindered by army intervention, political intrigue and the failure of Islam to unite the various ethnic factions. While pessimistic about the chances for democracy in Pakistan, he hopes that the democratic pluralism and broad-based political activity emerging in much of Eastern Europe and the Third World will inspire ordinary Pakistanis to transform their country into a nation, in spirit as well as in name.
THE GRAND VOLUME illustrative interior converted into this Red, Green, Blue (RGB) Edition, is limited for its interior comprised of coloured images of the Black & White (B&W) Edition. Relevant text and figure labels are given in full, hence the contents developed are retained for each figure except the removal of formulae and extensive details of the GRAND VOLUME for the full concept, are thus omitted. The RGB Edition in release, would give the reader a magnanimous touch or a tactful gesture in studying the context deeper in a colourful structure for those illustrations and diagrammatic features on Parallel Relativistic models, pi-black hole systems, Compulsory Force on force, and those imagery data of the GRAND VOLUME. Referral to disambiguation of figurative components in the GRAND VOLUME is resolutely attained. The RGB Edition alongside PhiBAl's(r) Demo Software (http: //stores.lulu.com/PhiBAl), is considered as a supplementary to the B&W version. The appendices of B&W have remained intact in this edition.
Vols. 1-4 include material to June 1, 1929.
