These reports are the result of a collection of statistics of marriage and divorce for the years 1922- They represent the fourth- investigation on the subject made by the federal government. The first investigation, made by the former Department of Labor, covered the 20-year period 1867-1886; the second investigation made by the Bureau of the Census, covered the 20-year period 1887-1906; and the third investigation, also made by the Bureau of the Census, covered the calendar year 1916 cf. 1922, Letter of transmittal, p. ii.
Rowland Judd (ca.1720-1806) immigrated (probably from England) to Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania about 1745, moving later to Pittsylvania County, Virginia and then to Surry County and Wilkes County, North Carolina. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Nevada, Washington and elsewhere.

John Archerd was born in Somerset, England in 1770. He married Mary McMichael (d. 1816) in 1799 in Ohio. He married Elizabeth Hays in 1818. Descendant Rufus Hays Archerd (1822-1898) married Nancy Rebecca Simmons (1823-1867).
