But with the help of vis brave teacher, Mx. Magic, STAR learns to dream bigger and more freely than ve ever has before...” This story is about STAR, an artist at heart with talents and dreams of singing, dancing, and acting. However, STAR doesn’t quite fit the mold and must make a choice: do what ve loves and be who ve wants to be, or hide away and risk unhappiness in exchange for fitting in. Ve is in a very lonely, hopeless place when Mx Magic, ve’s compassionate teacher, comes to the rescue with an inspiring message. This is a heart-warming story about self-love, self-expression, and acceptance that is perfect for children trying to work through the rigid social roles imposed them by a cis-heteronormative society. This book would also make a great educational resource for parents and teachers looking to better understand gender non-conforming children.

Step back in time with Cuban-American author Maday Martinez de Osaba as she recounts her family's rich history-the trials, joys, triumphs, and the life that happens in between. She beautifully unravels the elaborate details of her family and how they overcame the tragedies that life sometimes throws at us. Martinez de Osaba's intricately woven words and stories remind the reader to celebrate the journey rather than the destination. She exposes layers of the human spirit and the intangible longing a soul has to find love and make it a home. Follow along on this epic journey-from 1930s Cuba to an escape to Spain from Castro's oppression, and finally to freedom in the United States. Martinez de Osaba chronicles her family lineage and history with honesty and authenticity. This is a story about what we find when we seek to discover our family's past. We always find more than we knew-both the good and bad-which make our life stories worth telling.
I wrote this book because I wanted to learn more about interstel lar flight. Not the Star Trek notion of tearing around the Galaxy in a huge spaceship-that was obviously beyond existing tech nology-but a more realistic mission. In 1989 I had videotaped Voyager 2's encounter with Neptune and watched the drama of robotic exploration over and over again. I started to wonder whether we could do something similar with Alpha Centauri, the nearest star to the Sun. Everyone seemed to agree that manned flight to the stars was out of the question, if not permanently then for the indefinitely foreseeable future. But surely we could do something with robotics. And if we could figure out a theoretical way to do it, how far were we from the actual technology that would make it happen? In other words, what was the state of our interstellar technology today, those concepts and systems that might translate into a Voyager to the stars? Finding answers meant talking to people inside and outside of NASA. I was surprised to learn that there is a large literature of interstellar flight. Nobody knows for sure how to propel a space craft fast enough to make the interstellar crossing within a time scale that would fit the conventional idea of a mission, but there are candidate systems that are under active investigation. Some of this effort begins with small systems that we'll use near the Earth and later hope to extend to deep space missions.
