Deception isn’t only for demons… Faced with returning to the world of demon hunters or fighting an all-out war with them, powerful witch Angie Jordan feels boxed into a corner of lies and deceit. The demon world terrifies her. And if not for the one little trait that allows her to open portals into demon realms, her pursuit of witchcraft would be unquestioned. Surrounded by people she can’t trust, the only good thing about the whole mess is having Sebastian, the love of her life, by her side again. But their relationship is still best categorized as complicated. And Sebastian has plans of his own. Plans that could upend everything and endanger the entire world. Enemies on every side force Angie to do things she thought impossible. To survive, she must discover the real extent of her powers. And decide just how far she’s willing to go to save her world and the man she loves. Because if she can’t conquer her own demons, the real demons will win. keywords: Paranormal romance demon hunters, Dark urban fantasy, witches and demons, Urban fantasy romance, urban fantasy, witch paranormal fantasy, witch fantasy, paranormal witch urban fantasy, paranormal romance, paranormal witch romance, dark fantasy, horror fantasy, series paranormal romance, witch romance, demons and devils, witches and wizards, demon hunters, series urban fantasy, urban fantasy magic, magic and mayhem, horror romance, monsters and demons

When the sun rises, the sea spray and mists won’t hide the mythical monster from human view, or protect humans from the creature’s deadly tentacles. Getting the kraken away from human habitation proves challenging. And when Joan spots a grounded fishing boat, which the kraken refuses to release, Joan fears the creature has already claimed its first victim. Facing a kraken, without getting killed, tests even an experienced hero and her dragon. But that’s the job. A job Joan was born to do. Just her. Her sword. The Gospel Sounds Like the Witch's Spell is a highly detailed ethnography about how the Jopadhola in eastern Uganda talk about, interpret and cope with death, illness and other misfortunes. The book presents a provocative discussion that critiques the idea of the revival of witchcraft in the neo-liberalised contemporary world, as represented by the 'modernity model of witchcraft', and attempts to formulate a 'spiderweb model' that connects witchcraft to contemporary society in a more complex manner. The book is a unique ethnography of the collective memory of indigenous knowledge and local historicity. The author moves the reader from curse to misfortune to fortune as he plots the notion of 'curse' as deeply embedded in the Adhola way of life. He weaves between culture, religion, state and modernity with lived experience. Did the concept of witchcraft unwittingly endear the Adhola to the Christian way of life because of the presence of the notion of 'curse' in the Bible or make them less susceptible to the vagaries of modernity compared to their neighbours? These are some of the questions that the author puts on the table in a deeply reflective manner. The phenomenon of witchcraft is given an intriguing angle that invites the reader to reexamine earlier anthropological writings on the subject among African peoples.
Mountain Witches is a comprehensive guide to the complex figure of yamauba—female yōkai often translated as mountain witches, who are commonly described as tall, enigmatic women with long hair, piercing eyes, and large mouths that open from ear to ear and who live in the mountains—and the evolution of their roles and significance in Japanese culture and society from the premodern era to the present. In recent years yamauba have attracted much attention among scholars of women’s literature as women unconstrained by conformative norms or social expectations, but this is the first book to demonstrate how these figures contribute to folklore, Japanese studies, cultural studies, and gender studies. Situating the yamauba within the construct of yōkai and archetypes, Noriko T. Reider investigates the yamauba attributes through the examination of narratives including folktales, literary works, legends, modern fiction, manga, and anime. She traces the lineage of a yamauba image from the seventh-century text Kojiki to the streets of Shibuya, Tokyo, and explores its emergence as well as its various, often conflicting, characteristics. Reider also examines the adaptation and re-creation of the prototype in diverse media such as modern fiction, film, manga, anime, and fashion in relation to the changing status of women in Japanese society. Offering a comprehensive overview of the development of the yamauba as a literary and mythic trope, Mountain Witches is a study of an archetype that endures in Japanese media and folklore. It will be valuable to students, scholars, and the general reader interested in folklore, Japanese literature, demonology, history, anthropology, cultural studies, gender studies, and the visual and performing arts.
