The origins of the notary public trace back to the days of the Roman Republic. Today, the position remains important in our republic. As the overseer of the notary seal for South Dakota, our office produces this reference handbook for notaries in this State. This handbook contains South Dakota's notary statutes, definitions of terms commonly used in performing notarial acts, and the procedures for becoming a notary public in South Dakota. Referencing this booklet will help the notary have a greater understanding of the decisions, responsibilities, and obligations entrusted to each notary public. The oath of notary public carries a serious obligation. Once appointed and commissioned, a notary public becomes a public officer charged with "special trust and confidence in integrity and ability." To faithfully serve the public, the notary public must be knowledgeable about his or her responsibilities.

➖➖➖ BRAND NEW, CUTTING-EDGE NOTARY JOURNAL➖➖➖ Notaries serve as our nation's first line of defense against identity theft and other types of fraud by protecting their CLIENTS (the public) and the LEGAL SYSTEM itself ... but NOTARIES deserve protection too. Choosing a top-notch NOTARY JOURNAL is one invaluable way that we notaries can protect ourselves. My goal for this book . . . to create the most COMPREHENSIVE yet EFFICIENT, SPACIOUS, WELL-ORGANIZED, QUICK-FILL SINGLE-PAGE journal entry in a truly MULTI-STATE notary journal but also offer it at a VERY LOW PRICE-PER-ENTRY. ➖➖➖➖➖ ADVANTAGES ➖➖➖➖➖ ✅ EFFICIENCY - - - notarize faster with nearly 80 quick-fill options to minimize the data you must write out longhand (over 45 checkboxes to mark and more than 30 pre-printed words to circle) ✅ ACCURACY - - - boost accuracy by capturing data via prompts of pre-printed text in data-dedicated spaces ✅ VALUE - - - the low price-per-entry makes this 640-entry notary journal one of the most budget-friendly on the market ✅ LOGIC - - - methodically record data in 4 distinct categories via the left-edge tabs: (1) Notary Service (2) Document (3) Signer and (4) Credible Witnesses ✅ COMPREHENSIVE - - - journal entry even accommodates select obscure notary laws of 49 U.S. states better than most journals ✅ SPACIOUS - - - ample well-proportioned data-dedicated spaces in landscape format for those with larger writing (no more trying to figure out where to cram legally required data that doesn't have a designated space) ✅ FEES - - - separately track the notary service fee versus related state-permissible administrative/clerical costs as several states require (e.g. mileage reimbursement, travel time, rush, waiting time, cancellation and copy costs) ✅ COMFORT - - - landscape single-page format (2 entries per page) in a lightweight softbound cover (no more writing across a book binding; and no more dual-page entries to copy for copy requests) ✅ CONFIDENTIALITY - - - enhance data privacy via the 2-per-page single-page entry in calendar orientation ✅ USER-FRIENDLY - - - self-explanatory entry plus 10 extra pages of informative usage tips (e.g. entry illustrations, state-specific law accommodations, notary contact/abbreviations/notes/journal retention/surrender) ✅ CONVENIENCE - - - works with inkless fingerprint pad and fits many notary journal zippered security pouches ✅ TRANSPARENCY - - - gain peace of mind by evaluating this journal entry clearly displayed online before buying your next journal (no more rolling the dice on notary journals that show blurry or no sample entry at all) This multi-state journal accommodates the laws of 49 U.S. states (excepting Hawaii which requires a smaller book size) and even references select state-specific laws of 21 U.S. states (Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia) and the District of Columbia. ➤ 640-entries (2 per page) in landscape orientation (opens like a calendar) ➤ 11-inch x 8.5-inch softbound book with 341 black & white pages ➤ more than 10 extra informative pages on journal usage
