SUNup! Engaging REAL-WORLD tasks for eighth graders is an integrated skills book which has been developed based on the Costa Rican English new program starting in 2017 for seventh graders. The book is ideal to study over an academic year. Students practice the four skills through communicative activities that follow the Task Based Approach in four stages. To achieve the language competence, this book is divided into six scenarios, each scenario is divided into four themes and an extension section called review and expand. Each theme organizes the tasks into two main components: oral and written comprehension, and oral and written production. The Action Oriented Approach states that students are social agents who use the target language to perform specific actions in real life contexts. To be coherent with this basic principle, the eighth grade English book includes the use of digital technology in the development of mini-projects and critical thinking by letting students make decisions through problem-solving situations. SUNup! Engaging REAL-WORLD tasks for eighth graders has been designed to consolidate the A2 band, based on the Common European Framework. In the extension activities, students are expected to reinforce grammar and sentence frames as well as reading comprehension. At the end of each scenario, students are expected to check their progress which derive from the linguistic competences “Learner can …” using a Can-do check list. A flexible classroom arrangement is recommended so that students can have opportunities to walk around and work in pairs or individually, which will provide them with the opportunity to develop learners’ meta-cognitive, meta-affective, and meta-social strategies in an organized, purposeful and scaffolded learning experience. Besides the students’ book, teachers have access to the audio- material and the teachers’ guide. The F PRIMA Publishing house focuses on supporting English Teachers in the process of understanding and implementing the new English syllabus approved by the Consejo Superior de Educación in the year 2016. Thank you for your commitment to the goal of transforming English Classrooms across Costa Rica.
The Known World is still not fixed… and things have got ugly In the Goblin realm, Queen Afflech was doing remarkably well considering the circumstances. She had seen her husband die, and both her sons killed within the space of a couple of weeks. That kind of thing does tend to bring you down a bit. Losing three kings in a few days looked rather careless. But of more concern to the Goblin warlords was whether it looked weak to their enemies. They suspected the Humans were behind one death and the Ogres behind another. The Pixies were no threat, the Trolls would probably soon be killing one another again, and the Elves were irrelevant (or, to be precise, just annoying). Meanwhile, King Wyndham wanted to show the Goblins that Humans were not to blame (apart from the two that might be to blame). Petra, the most famous Pixie in the Known World, knew exactly who was to blame and wanted to rescue them. Lord Protector Higarth was determined to help the Goblins with their predicament, whether they wanted Ogre-help or not. But on the plus side, the dragon’s gone; and there are still plenty of unicorns… maybe they can somehow solve everything? Cover design: S & A Buck

It is 1936, and BEN FINDLAY, a 16-year-old Michigan farm boy, wanders to a local airport to escape his abusive father. Ben meets BRICE, a crusty flight instructor and veteran pilot with the U. S. Army Air Corps in the 1914-1918 Great War, who teaches Ben to fly in a bi-wing, open-cockpit Stearman trainer. Ben quickly masters advanced maneuvers, including aerial combat tactics, and is recruited to fly for Spains Republican Air Force in that countrys bloody civil war. Ben slips away from home before his eighteenth birthday, and after additional combat training, sails for Barcelona, Spain. Thus begins an adventure filled odyssey that sweeps Ben from Spain to England and into the early days of World War 2 as a Spitfire pilot with Britains Royal Air Force. Following Americas entry into the war Ben transfers to the U. S. Army Air Force and opts to fly Boeing B-17 bombers to carry the war directly to Germany. Escape to the Sky ends with Bens thirtieth and final bombing raid over Regensburg, Germany.
Business, Government and Labor in the Economic Development of Singapore and Southeast Asia analyzes the inter-linked and evolving roles of private sector business, government public policy, and labor markets in the economic development of Singapore and its Southeast Asian neighborhood. It does this through 16 essays written by Prof. Linda Y C Lim, an early and long-established scholar of these subjects, and published over a 35-year period. For Singapore, often considered the world's most successful economy, the essays highlight the determining role of government's industrial and social policy through to the present day, when the growth model of the past faces many external market and domestic resource constraints. In the rest of Southeast Asia, in contrast, the essays explore how private sector business, dominated by the locally-domiciled ethnic Chinese minority, thrived and drove economic growth in underdeveloped markets with imperfect institutions, and consider if and how this might change with China's increasing presence in the regional economy. A final set of essays analyzes the forces underlying women's employment, from labor-intensive Southeast Asian export factories in the 1980s to Singapore's foreign-labor-dependent economy and its current productivity challenges. Taken together, the essays show how government, business and labor interact in the process of economic development.

"This book is a clarion call for African American preachers to think more deeply about the aims and ends of their preachingnamely to stop putting so much emphasis on celebratory endings to our sermons and focus more on the substantive content in our sermons. Our so-called celebratory preaching, designed to excite the congregation into action through a highly emotional closing of the sermon, has had the opposite effect. Rather than inducing action, it has lulled generations of black congregants to sleep. While we are jumping up and down, shouting, and waving our hands in the air every Sunday during the worship hour, we seem not to notice the growing number of churched and unchurched alike who are becoming powerfully alienated from any form of institutional religion." from the introduction "Celebration" is a term that has long been used to describe African American preaching, characterized by content that affirms the goodness and powerful intervention of God as well as style that builds from quiet beginnings to an emotionally rich crescendo in conclusion. Cleophus J. LaRue argues that while celebration is one of African American preaching's greatest gifts to the larger church, too many black preachers have become content with the form of celebrationvolume, vocabulary, pitch, speed, rhythm, and the liketo the neglect of its essencethe proclamation of the mighty acts of God in the lives of their congregations and communities. This kind of preaching, LaRue contends, fails to address the ongoing problems of the African American community and is powerless to prevent the growing disaffection of black America with the black church. In words both prophetic and practical, LaRue suggests ways to improve black preaching that honor both the form and the power of the African American homiletical practice of celebration. Preachers will learn how to use celebration more selectively and as part of a fully formed preaching practice rather than as a means of distracting the congregation from pressing social and theological questions. The book includes six illustrative sermons from LaRue as well as Paschal Sampson Wilkinson Sr., Brian K. Blount, and Claudette Anderson Copeland.
