An analysis of time-mean-turbulent boundary layer velocity profiles measured in a rapidly accelerating flow suggests that the outer region of the velocity profiles consists of essentially inviscid, rotational flow. The extent of this inviscid outer region was observed in some cases to exceed 90 percent of what is ordinarily thought of as the turbulent boundary layer thickness. On the other hand, the inner frictional region of these velocity profiles appears to have turbulent characteristics similar to those of more conventional turbulent boundary layers. Hence, the outer edge boundary condition for this inner region is more properly the external rotational flow region than the free stream.
This new edition of the near-legendary textbook by Schlichting and revised by Gersten presents a comprehensive overview of boundary-layer theory and its application to all areas of fluid mechanics, with particular emphasis on the flow past bodies (e.g. aircraft aerodynamics). The new edition features an updated reference list and over 100 additional changes throughout the book, reflecting the latest advances on the subject.
Lists citations with abstracts for aerospace related reports obtained from world wide sources and announces documents that have recently been entered into the NASA Scientific and Technical Information Database.
Application of Semi-Analytical Methods for Nanofluid Flow and Heat Transfer applies semi-analytical methods to solve a range of engineering problems. After various methods are introduced, their application in nanofluid flow and heat transfer, magnetohydrodynamic flow, electrohydrodynamic flow and heat transfer, and nanofluid flow in porous media within several examples are explored. This is a valuable reference resource for materials scientists and engineers that will help familiarize them with a wide range of semi-analytical methods and how they are used in nanofluid flow and heat transfer. The book also includes case studies to illustrate how these methods are used in practice. - Presents detailed information, giving readers a complete familiarity with governing equations where nanofluid is used as working fluid - Provides the fundamentals of new analytical methods, applying them to applications of nanofluid flow and heat transfer in the presence of magnetic and electric field - Gives a detailed overview of nanofluid motion in porous media
Computer Methods and Recent Advances in Geomechanics covers computer methods, material modeling and testing, applications to a wide range of geomechanical issues, and recent advances in various areas that may not necessarily involve computer methods, and will be of interest to researchers and engineers involved in geotechnical mechanics and geo-engineering.
