In the body of the book I have borne repeated testimony to the merits of the existing writings of Mr. Grantham, Mr. Scott Russell, Dr. Fairbairn, Professor Rankine, and others; but none of these either gives, or professes to give, that copious detailed information of which those who have to superintend the practical operations of shipbuilding, and even cultivated workmen, have often felt the want.
