If you are a Marine veteran, or come from a Marine Corps family already, this book is a great resource. It can help you compare your experiences with how the Marine Corps is conducting its training now. Many things have changed throughout the history of boot camp, but many things have not. This book can provide you with an opportunity to brush up on what's new and discuss what is the same. This guide has information from multiple official United States Marine Corps web sites and endeavors to be as current as possible. The 13 weeks of recruit training will fly by before you know it. While you won't be there personally to witness the transformation, you will be able to learn what is happening to your recruit. The purpose of this comparative study is three-fold. Firstly, it offers an analysis of and a comparison between the application and interpretation of Article 8 (often in conjunction with the anti-discrimination principle of Article 14) of the European Convention of Human Rights and the application and interpretation of the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution, in particular with regard to family law. Secondly, it compares and analyses the answers to the specific questions regarding circumstances under which a legal parent-child relationship may be established and by whom, as described under Dutch (Chapter 4) and Californian, New York and Texas Law (Chapter 5). And thirdly, it compares and analyses the compliance with and influence of the European Convention as reflected in family law by the Dutch Supreme Court and the compliance with and influence of the U.S. Constitution as reflected in family law decisions - and filiation law in particular - by the courts in California, New York and Texas.

The authors consider a range of relationship and family structures that depart from this ideal: polyamory and polygamy, single and polyparenting, parenting by gay and lesbian couples, as well as families created through assisted human reproduction.

This book examines how people cannot escape being tainted, whether actively engaged or not, by violence in its countless manifestations. The essays encompass a wide range of theoretical resources, methodological approaches and geo-political areas. They describe how images and fragments of traumatic and violent scenarios are transported from one generation’s unconscious to that of another, leading to cycles of repetition and retaliation, restricting the freedom to imagine alternatives and inhabit alternative positions. The authors all work within a psychosocial framework by unsettling the boundaries between psyche-social. Four themes are addressed: violence of speech, violence and domination, repetition and violence, and the possibility of reparation or renewal. Due to its theoretical engagements and the case studies provided, this interdisciplinary collection will be of value to postgraduate and undergraduate students of psychology, philosophy, politics and history.
