Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.
This is a reproduction of a book published before 1923. This book may have occasional imperfections such as missing or blurred pages, poor pictures, errant marks, etc. that were either part of the original artifact, or were introduced by the scanning process. We believe this work is culturally important, and despite the imperfections, have elected to bring it back into print as part of our continuing commitment to the preservation of printed works worldwide. We appreciate your understanding of the imperfections in the preservation process, and hope you enjoy this valuable book.
Selection from Homer's Iliad includes an introduction, notes, a short Homeric grammar, and a vocabulary by Allen Rogers Benner, Professor of Greek in Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass. [1903]
Excerpt from Selections From Homer's Iliad: With an Introduction, Notes, a Short Homeric Grammar, and a Vocabulary Very unusual words - chiefly such as are found only once in the text of Homer - are defined in foot-notes. This principle has naturally not been extended to all proper names that occur but once; these are mentioned in the foot-notes only in rare and special instances, chiefly when a difficulty about understanding or interpreting the name would confront the inexperienced student. Some times, too, in the case of compound words or of simple words that are common in Attic Greek, the foot-notes sug gest rather than define the meanings. It is believed that these devices, which are novel in a work of this nature, will wisely save time for the student. The quantities of long vowels (a, T, and I?) have been marked in the Gram mar and in the Vocabulary. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
