Indian religions , especially Hinduism , Jainism , Sikhism and Buddhism , the saintly man is revered as "truth-exemplary" for his knowledge of "self , truth and reality". In Sikhism it is used to describe human beings who have attained spiritual enlightenment and divine wisdom and power by uniting with God. A saint has an important place in the life of a devotee. The importance of a saint is also mentioned in Hindu scriptures. According to Hindu scriptures, by taking refuge in a true saint and performing devotional service according to the scriptures, the worshiper becomes free from the diseases of birth and death. The identity of a true saint has also been told in the holy scriptures of Hinduism that a true saint will have complete knowledge of all the holy scriptures and will take diksha three times in the name of three types of mantras. A saint , a theologian or a bhagat is any human being who has attained God and is in spiritual contact with God. Sikhs believe that the divine energy of God can be experienced by man on earth. This is achieved through constant chanting of the Lord's name (Naam Japo / Naam Simran) and spiritual introspection. Sikhs generally use reality as the name of God which cannot be merely mouthed but must be lived in truth. Saints can be of any religion. Individuals like Kabir , Ravidas , Namdev , Farid , Bhikkan and others are known as saints or bhagats , irrespective of their belonging to Islam or Hinduism . The divine knowledge is universal , and after attaining knowledge through Naam Simran their knowledge is compiled and included in the holy book of Sikhism , Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Saints are holy persons of the highest order , they are among the ideal human beings. Thus , Sikhs are encouraged to seek the company and pious company of saints (saadh- sangat) , learn from them , and attain "sainthood" through intense reading and meditation on the Sikh scriptures (gurbani) and Naam Simran. The virtuous life associated with a saint or Brahmagyani (one who has complete knowledge of God) is defined in Sikh Gurbani , specifically in the Sukhmani Sahib passage of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib. In India, religion continues to be an absolutely vital source for social as well as personal identity. All manner of groups--political, occupational, and social--remain grounded in specific religious communities. This book analyzes the development of the modern Hindu and Sikh communities in North India starting from about the fifteenth century, when the dominant bhakti tradition of Hinduism became divided into two currents: the sagun and the nirgun. The sagun current, led mostly by Brahmins, has remained dominant in most of North India and has served as the ideological base of the development of modern Hindu nationalism. Several chapters explore the rise of this religious and political movement, paying particular attention to the role played by devotion to Ram. Alternative trends do exist in sagun tradition, however, and are represented here by chapters on the low-caste saint Chokhamel and the tantric sect founded by Kina Ram. The nirgun current, led mostly by persons of Ksand artisan castes, formed the base of both the Sikh community, founded by Guru Nanak, and of various non-Brahmin sectarian movements derived from such saints as Kabir, Raidas, Dadu, and Shiv Dayal Singh. Two chapters discuss the formation of a distinctive Sikh theology and a Sikh community identity separate from that of the Hindus. Other chapters discuss the validity of the sagun-nirgun distinction within Hindu tradition and the interplay of social and religious ideas in nirgun hagiographic texts and in sectarian movements such as the Adi Dharma Mission and the Radhasoami Satsang.
Though the history of Sikh-Muslim relations is fraught with conflict, this book examines how the policies of Sikh rulers attempted to avoid religious bigotry and prejudice at a time when Muslims were treated as third-class citizens. Focusing on the socio-economic, political and religious condition of Muslims under Sikh rule in the Punjab during the 19th century, this book demonstrates that Maharaja Ranjit Singh and his successors took a secular approach towards their subjects. Using various archival sources, including the Fakir Khana Family archives and the Punjab Archives, the author argues citizens had freedom to practice their religion, with equal access to employment, education and justice.

"Akashvani" (English) is a programme journal of ALL INDIA RADIO, it was formerly known as The Indian Listener. It used to serve the listener as a bradshaw of broadcasting ,and give listener the useful information in an interesting manner about programmes, who writes them, take part in them and produce them along with photographs of performing artists. It also contains the information of major changes in the policy and service of the organisation. The Indian Listener (fortnightly programme journal of AIR in English) published by The Indian State Broadcasting Service, Bombay, started on 22 December, 1935 and was the successor to the Indian Radio Times in English, which was published beginning in July 16 of 1927. Animals are worshipped in India in many ways: as deities—the elephant-god Ganesha and the monkey-god Hanuman; as avatars—like Vishnu’s fish, tortoise and boar forms; and as vahanas—the swan, bull, lion and tiger were all vehicles of major deities and are thus sacred by association. Some animals, like the snake, are worshipped out of fear. Birds such as the crow are associated with the abode of the dead, or the souls of ancestors, while the cow’s sanctity may derive from its economic value. There are also hero-animals, such as the vanaras, and animals which were totemic symbols of tribes that were assimilated into Vedic Hinduism.
