Excerpt from Report of the Director of the Mint Upon the Production of the Precious Metals in the United States During the Calendar Year 1901 The total product of the precious metals reported by mint officers and agents in the foregoing table somewhat exceeds either of the above calculations of this Bureau, the difference between this total and the lower of the two estimates being per cent for gold and per cent for silver. A difference between the two sets of figures is naturally to be expected, inasmuch as they do not relate to the same thing, the figures reported by mint officers and agents representing the estimated fine contents of the ore, whereas the estimates of this Bureau deal with the finished product only. That the calculations of this Bureau, nevertheless, approximate very closely the results Obtained from the mines by mint Officers and agents in'the several States and Territories vouches for the practical accuracy of the estimates. Excerpt from Report of the Director of the Mint Upon the Production of Precious Metals in the United States During the Calendar Year 1888 Sir: I have the honor to forward herewith for transmittal to Congress a report on Production of the Precious Metals in the United States for the calendar year being my fourth report and the ninth of the same series prepared by this Bureau under annual appropriations. The statistical matter has been reduced, as far as practicable, to a tabular form to the exclusion of textual matter, this change being in accord, as I conceive, with the general purpose and method of mineral statistics. The editorial and statistical labors of this report have, as usual, been shared with Mr. E. O. Leech, of the Bureau of the Mint. Respectfully yours, james P. Kimball, Director of the Mint. Hon. Charles S. Fairchild, Secretary of the Treasury. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Report of the Director of the Mint Upon the Production of the Precious Metals in the United States During the Calendar Year 1893 These two tables are singularly confirmatory of each other. A mean between the amount of gold estimated to have been produced in 1893 and the amount the disposition of which during the same period is shown above, viz, ounces of the value of gives as close an approximation to the actual product of the year as can be reached; and these are the figures, as already remarked, at which the Bureau places the production of gold in the United States in 1893.
