Plutonic rocks of the Canadian Shield are being assessed as a potential host medium for the storage of radioactive waste. A study of the geological framework of three structural provinces (Superior, Southern, and grenville) within Ontario has resulted in an inventory of 1365 plutons which are identified on Map 1533A at a scale of 1:1,000,000. The plutons have been classified by rock type: granite (sensu lato) comprises 75% of the plutons, gabbro 15%, alkalic rocks 8%, and anorthosite 2%.
This volume contains a description of the geology and mineral deposits of the Superior Province of the Canadian Shield, an overview of Grenville Province geology, and a synopsis of Precambrian fossil occurrences in North America. Six large plates include a geological map of Canada, geological map of the Grenville Province, lithotectonic map of the Superior Province, Archean mineral deposit map of the Superior Province, and more.
The Funger lake Area covers approximately 386 square km in the District ofThunder Bay. The centre of the map area is about 30 km northwest of the townof Armstrong. The map area includes Early Precambrian (Archean) rocks of thevolcanic-plutonic Wabigoon subprovince of the Superior Province and lesserLate Precambrian (Proterozoic) rocks of the Nipigon Plate of the SouthernProvince.
A report investigating the plutonic rocks of Vancouver Island, including the general geology of Vancouver Island, the age of the plutonic rocks, the petrography and distribution of Jurassic plutons and Tertiary plutons, a comparison of the modal composition of plutonic rocks to Coast Intrusions and California batholith, the chemical and normative composition of the plutonic rocks, the physical forms of the plutons, and the mode of emplacement of the plutons.
