When was the last time you felt God’s presence?Does a sense of the Lord’s presence seem to elude you, despite your earnest seeking? Does Heaven seem silent, despite your patient listening? Many Christians have been on a similar journey, but Scripture makes it clear that the Holy Spirit is within you—not just with you. The...
How does one achieve this life in the Spirit, this life lived in the presence of God? There is a temper of soul that is developed in a believer that readily perceives the presence and nearness of God. Every patriarch who walked with God developed this temper of soul that perceived His holy presence. Moses acknowledged His presence by removing his shoes. Abraham acknowledged His presence by leaving his home and kin to follow the Unseen One. Jacob awoke from a dream that ushered him into this awareness and stated, "...Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not" (Genesis 28:16). A man's perception of God's nearness is what marks him for glory, because when one knows God is present, he lives a more faith filled, honorable, holy, fearless, joyful, and loving life.
Winner of the 2019 Moon City Poetry Award "Contour lines // down your side of the bed ...": Such lines mark the Place Where Presence Was, Bret Shepard's debut full-length collection and winner of the Moon City Poetry Award. Here, Shepard probes intimacy and its absence through topographical imagery, with endlessly inventive ways of approaching his theme. In one poem, X marks the spot (on a calendar); in another, the title poem, the invisible path of his lover through his home are viewed as marks of elevation. For Shepard, the map is a tool to make sense of the world and our relationship to it, and the poems themselves add another dimension from which to view the spaces between us. These are poems of longing, with the emphasis on "long," and a recognition of all the ways desire stretches distance ever farther --and of "the necessary ways we quiet / into nothing at all."
Sunny Taylor is an American nurse who hides behind a mask of crisp professionalism at a Finnish convalescent hospital called Suvanto. Heavy Metals in the Aquatic Environment contains the proceedings of an international conference held in Nashville, Tennessee in December 1973. This conference is co-sponsored by the International Association on Water Pollution Research, the Sport Fishing Institute, the American Fishing Tackle Manufacturers Association, and Vanderbilt University's Department of Environmental and Water Resources Engineering. Contributors focus on the hazards posed by heavy metals present in the aquatic environment and how to control them. This text consists of 45 chapters divided into eight sections. This book assesses the environmental impact of heavy metals found in the aquatic environment; the economic impact of removing them from waste effluents; and the costs vs. benefits attained by their removal. The social costs are also evaluated. After an introduction to dose-response relationships resulting from human exposure to methylmercury compounds, the discussion turns to the toxicity of cadmium in relation to itai-itai disease; the effects of heavy metals on fish and aquatic organisms; and the analytical methods used for measuring concentrations of methylmercury and other heavy metals. The next sections explore the transport, distribution, and removal of heavy metals, along with regulations, standards, surveillance, and monitoring aimed at addressing the problem. This book will be of interest to planners and policymakers involved in water pollution control.
