"Pat Crowe, as his theatrial, musical and journalistic comrades know James Richard Crowe, Jr. of Alabama, enlisted in the United States AIr Service early in 1917, when his country entered the war. He spent that Summer at the ground school in Cambridge, Mass., and sailed from New York for France on Nov. 23 as a Cadet in the 15th Foreign Detachment, Aviation Section, Signal Corps. He was Commisioned a Second Lieutenant at Tours in July, 1918. He met his death on Sept. 29 by falling with his aeroplane from a height of 7,000 feet unpon the field of Issoudun."--Page 9
