If everything in our lives we knew to be good was gone, would we still say God is good? What if His goodness is grounded in something more than our experiences? What if that goodness actually runs so deep that it can never be erased from our souls...the very place we need to believe it most? Maybe God's goodness isn't about a set of events after all. Maybe his goodness is how He takes every event and molds us and changes us into something beautiful- even when the very thing we've experienced is anything but. Whether you know it or not, you've probably heard a part of Maria's story. News articles and T.V. screens nationwide were plastered with, "Plane from Indiana crashes in Michigan, two killed." In Oh, Goodness, Maria will take you with her as she reflects back on discovering the true goodness of God in a way that is authentic, honest, and raw. Maria connects us with the many facets of her own humanity as we join her on a journey where she asks a very simple yet profound question. "God, if you are good then why..." In this book, Maria doesn't tolerate a cookie cutter answer to such a question. If we don't believe God is good in all circumstances, then why on earth would we ever be a Christian? At some point, life is hard and painful. It's in that season we learn just where our faith lies. If God is really good then why... Join Maria as she tells about her journey and then begin to discover God's goodness in your own life. I am only a kid. Not too long ago, my family was no fun. I was always in trouble .Mom and Dad had strict rules so I started breaking them . They always said I didn't cooperate, whatever that means, or that I didn't listen to what they said. This book is my "ah ha" moment when I realized that I could change everybody.Believe it or not, I started taking responsibility for my own actions and I am still just a kid. It is hard sometimes to say I am wrong. In fact, I hate that part but it works. AND when I say I am sorry and mean it, everyone is happy, even me. What have I done to my Family is all about me learning to live with parents and brothers who annoy me, but I love anyway.
Welcome back to FairAcres! Here's another inspiring and humorous hit from Effie Leland Wilder, featuring Hattie McNair and her lovable cohorts at FairAcres Retirement Home. ATHE AGE OF NINETY-TWO and with more than 500,000 copies of her four best-selling books in print, you'd think that author Effie Leland Wilder would be content to rest on her laurels. Fortunately, in response to the floods of letters requesting another visit to FairAcres, Mrs. Wilder invites us back for another delightfully uplifting and entertaining adventure. In her familiar journal entries, Hattie takes note of the laughter that lighten the days of her fellow FairAcre "inmates" as well as the tears at the loss of loved ones. Familiar neighbor Mr. C. befriends a young man with some legal troubles and sets him back on the right path, with the assistance of Hattie and company. The residents pitch in to help build a house for a FairAcres employee, demonstrating the same indomitable spirit that has made Wilder's previous books so popular. And Hattie's writing success continues as she enters a short story contest. With grace and humor Wilder gently pokes fun at growing older, all the while reflecting on the special wisdom gained from aging, and the challenges and losses that must be faced.

A heartwarming, hilarious Christmas story with a Southern twist. Like most things in Ellery, Tennessee, this year’s Drive Thru Nativity is a little unconventional. The Dollar General parking lot doubles as a Bethlehem stable, and widowed writer Ivy Long, who’s been roped into playing Mary, sure as heck isn’t a virgin. But then comes an unexpected development: a genuine, real-life baby left in the manger, with only a brief note. And somehow, in the kerfuffle that follows, Ivy finds her life is about to change . . . The holidays are a bittersweet time for Ivy—filled with memories of her beloved late husband and reminders that life doesn’t always offer the happily-ever-afters her readers expect. So when Ivy ends up with custody of the baby, she can only chalk it up to a Christmas miracle. She doesn’t know if it will be forever, but with help from family, she’ll make little Zuzu’s first Christmas a good one. The nativity’s Joseph, aka Gabe Ledbetter, has a pediatrics background that’s coming in mighty handy. In turn, Ivy is helping Gabe find his place in the quirky community. If that place turns out to be somewhere near Ivy, well, maybe this particular Christmas story will turn out to be merry and bright after all . . .
