This is book two of a two volume set. The Nottingham Date Book is a book of the history of Nottingham from 850 to 1884. In particular, after about 1750, it is full of references to every-day happenings in the town and its people. Not just important people, but normal people too. Its fascination for me is not only because I was born in Nottingham and interested in its history, but also as a family historian, as it contains so many references to people and every-day events. It is a particularly rare book, and even more so in its complete edition up to 1884.
This book was first published in 1966. The city of Nottingham grew from the nucleus of a smaller and older town to become one of the nation's leading industrial centres, and although it was not a product of the industrial revolution Nottingham was completely transformed by it. For most of the nineteenth century the major activities were the production of hosiery by an industry whose methods, organization, and outlook remained traditional for many decades, and the manufacture of machine-made lace, a progressive and mechanized industry which from its early years featured factory production. This text explores the relationship between the development of power based machinery and the more traditional crafts of the area.
This major new study of Nottingham over the past one thousand years is the most comprehensive account of the city's development ever produced. Nottingham's past is studied from its Anglo-Saxon origins to the modern industrial and commercial centre of the late twentieth century.

Management is a constellation of concepts and ideas. Its many definitions span the boundaries of leadership and strategy on the one hand and business administration on the other; from people management to P&L accounts, to both change and stability, sometimes simultaneously. There are few concepts that have attracted as much business interest as the management of organisations.
