I was one of those kids who always got hurt—you know, the one who was always trying to outdo the other guy. Even when I didn’t try, I got hurt. One day, I was on my dirt bike in Garretson Beach. The day was a hot eighty-seven degrees with clear skies. After riding for about three hours, I stopped to get a drink. I put the kickstand down; and while I was walking to my car—bang!—I fell down, got up, and started seeing double. People were running over to help me. They were flying remote-controlled airplanes by the beach, and someone had lost control of a plane. It had crash-landed hard at the back of my head. It was a good thing I hadn’t taken my helmet off; I would have been seriously hurt otherwise. But I sustained an injury to my neck that I can still feel thirty-five years later. That’s just one of my misadventures. Read about more in this book.

Within each body is an archaeological site that holds the details and wisdom of our extraordinary life story, composed of generational, spiritual, and personal experiences. Historical amnesia locks these stories in the body, manifesting as pain, disease, addictions, emotional patterns, and repetitive circumstances. Somatically excavating your personal legend unearths memories of the past that can be reconciled and healed in order to create a new myth-for your body and for your Earth. "My Body, My Earth provides a detailed and eloquent rationale and description for how this remarkable technique works, both as a therapeutic model and a self-help manual. It is a major contribution to the burgeoning literature in the field of somatic psychology."-Robert Scaer, M.D., author, The Body Bears the Burden: Trauma, Dissociation and Disease, and The Trauma Spectrum: Hidden Wounds and Human Resiliency "A remarkable incursion into one of the deepest of all mysteries: the hidden memories that are locked into the fibers of our bodies. This book is an impressive and extremely helpful guide to reuniting the conscious and unconscious aspects of the mind."-Richard Smoley, author of Conscious Love and Inner Christianity
Forty years of an exciting life, until the day everything changes abruptly. The accident, which obliges Emmanuel, a professional motorcycle pilot, and a motorcyclist in the national police, to leave the world of valid people and join the handicapped world. In parallel, before the accident, during his coma and even afterwards, some mysterious signs appear and interfere in his life. Chance or synchronicity? Were these signs meant to warn him? Was the accident planned? In order to slow his life down, or make it take a different turn? Through his story, you will discover the hidden face of the daily life of a paraplegic, with all his suffering, psychological and physical, as well as the different steps in his reconstruction, full of obstacles and setbacks. EXCERPT It was 3 o’clock in the morning, on 22nd February 2013, and the alarm clock was ringing. It was time to get up, to serve and represent the French Republic. As every other week, on Friday morning, I turned into a night bird. I drove to Toulouse Central Police Station, where I slipped into my show costume, or should I say my National Police motorcyclist outfit. I joined my colleagues for the regular alcohol level tests, and we all departed together for a precise location, in order to set up the device. That morning, like many other mornings, our spot was located at the Ponts-Jumeaux, a very good place for “catching” drunken road delinquents. My mission was simple – when I say my mission, it was more the motorcyclist’s mission: chasing the naughty drivers who refused to submit to the test, or sometimes even just drove straight into the police roadblock. This mission was one I particularly enjoyed. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Born in 1973, Emmanuel Siaux was a motorcyclist in the French national police for twenty years, France Road Rallye Champion and Team Manager of the French National Police Motorcyclist team. On the eve of his fortieth birthday, an accident on duty confines him to a wheelchair, obliging him to face a new challenge: the long road to reconstruction and learning to live as a paraplegic.

A clinical psychologist and eating disorder specialist busts common myths around food, nutrition, and weight loss to set you on a path towards healing and self-love. A 10-step approach to ditching diet culture, healing your relationship with food, and cultivating compassion for your body. Diets don’t work—and it’s not your fault. As a culture, we’re told (and tell ourselves) that if we just lose the weight—try a little harder, have a little more willpower, or deprive ourselves for a little bit longer—we’ll be happier, healthier, and more confident. But it’s not true. Clinical psychologist Alexis Conason debunks the myths we’ve been sold about food, nutrition, health, and weight loss, and offers an antidote to the pain and harmful health consequences that result from yo-yo diets, untenable food regimens, and quick fixes. Conason, who is also an eating disorder specialist, shows readers how radically shifting our relationship to food and our own bodies can be incredibly healing, nourishing, and can help us to better love and care for ourselves. Enriched with case studies, practical meditations, stories, lessons, and activities, her 10-step program will help you: • Challenge your assumptions about weight and health • Understand the ways that our emotions can impact how and why we eat • Embrace your “yum” and tune into taste with mindful eating • Trust your body to be your guide and find real fullness Reframing dieting and diet “failure” as pervasive aspects of our culture—not individual failures—The Diet-Free Revolution offers a roadmap to healing, self-acceptance, and radical new ways of relating to and loving our bodies.
