“A memoir-vivid portrait of a vertiginous affair” (Vogue) for readers of Jenny Offill, Garth Greenwell, and Anne Enright, an unforgettable novel about a young American expat who settles in Ireland, marries, and lives through the consequences of an affair—by “an extravagantly gifted writer” (Rachel Cusk). In this “humane and lucid novel” (The New York Times), Alice, a young American, arrives in the West of Ireland with no plans and no strong attachments. She meets and falls in love with an Irishman, quickly marries him, and settles down in a place whose customs are unfamiliar. And then, in the course of a single hot summer, she embarks on an affair that breaks her marriage and sets her life on a new course. Years later, in the immediate aftermath of her beloved mother’s death, Alice, having worked in war zones around the world, finds herself back in Ireland, contemplating the forces that led her to put down roots and then tear them up again. What drew her to her husband, and what pulled her away? Was her husband strangely complicit in the affair? Was she always under surveillance by friends and neighbors who knew more than they let on? “Short, intense, and emotionally precise” (Star Tribune, Minneapolis), Straying is at once a “ferociously well written” (The Guardian) account of passion and ambivalence and an exquisite rumination on the things that matter most.
Her tailor-made temptation has him coming apart at the seams Carver Danforthe, Earl of Everscham, has a reputation of being a wild rogue-not for indulging the ambitions of his sister's maid. But Molly Robbins' unique dress designs have caught the eye of society's elite, and if it means her own dress shop, Molly will make a deal with the devil himself-or his proxy, the notoriously naughty earl. But becoming his mistress is not a part of their arrangement. It's right there in the contract's small print: No Tomfoolery. Until he proposes a scandalous new addendum to their contract...
She was a perfect baby, and she had a perfect name. Chrysanthemum. Chrysanthemum loved her name—until she started school. A terrific read-aloud for the classroom and libraries!
God created man in His own image, and this is reflected in the human beings we see these days. According to anthropology, paleontology and astronomy, this universe was created almost 15 billion years ago. By evolution and based on scientific evidence, humans (Homo sapiens) were identified between 200 and 300 years ago. When such facts are witness to my thinking, my theory is as follows: It took God more than 15 billion years to create humans in His own image. Step by step, I have put in order the various phases of evolution. At last, God found an image similar to Himself and called him “man.” My main characters in the story are Pikaia Gracilens, a boneless sea creature (refer Google), mice, crocodiles, cockroaches, ants, frogs, monkeys and finally, God. God is depicted as an old scientist similar to Eisenstein with mangled laboratories all around Him; then, in some corner, the universe is portrayed with all planets, meteoroids and so on.
