They include thread mills, yarn, cloth, and hosiery. All the facilities needed for a modern little city are to be found in Shelby. A modern 75-bed hospital, public schools, health department, and a public library of volumes. Aldermanic form of government with Mayor and four councilmen. The tax rate, 90 cents, is among the lowest in the state. Municipally owned water and electric systems. Shelby is served by two railroads, branch lines of Southern and Sea board. Main line of Southern traverses the County a few miles from Shelby. Buses arrive and leave at all hours. Three motor express lines operate thru the city.
