Town intended to be made the capital Of Upper Canada was selected, and the name Of York was prospectively given to it. At the same time the Bay Of Toronto became the Bay Of York, and the surrounding township the Township Of York. Previously, for some time, it had, through some caprice in the Surveyor-general's Office, borne the name Of Dublin; at which period Scarborough, from a like cause, was Glasgow, Darlington Bristol, and Whitby Norwich.
