Excerpt from Memoirs of a Captivity Among the Indians of North America, From Childhood to the Age of Nineteen Be it remembered, that on the eighth day of February, in the forty-seventh year of the independence of the United States of America, A. D. 1823, John D. Hunter of the said district, hath deposited in this office the title of a book, the right whereof he claims as Author in the words following, to wit: "Manners and Customs of several Indian tribes located west of the Mississippi; including some account of the Soil, Climate, and Vegetable productions, and the Indian Materia Medica: To which is prefixed the History of the Author's life, during a residence of several years among them."
