Excerpt from Thomas Drummond: Under-Secretary in Ireland 1835-40; Life and Letters Mrs Drummond having recently found among her husband's papers' a number of interesting letters, throwing fresh light on his work and character, placed them in my hands with a view to publishing a new life. Through the courtesy of Sir Bernard Burke, Ulster King-of-Arms, I have been able to examine the papers in the Record Tower, Dublin Castle, relating to Drummond's administration of Ireland. I have drawn upon Hansard, the contemporary press, Parliamentary Committees, and other sources of information little used before. The sketch of Drummond's early days is based on Mr McLennan's "Memoir" (now out of print), from which I have also taken some useful letters. I have had the advantage of many conversations with Mrs Drummond, whose recollection of her husband's work in Ireland is vivid, and with Sir C. Gavan Duffy, whose memory goes back to those days, and who met Drummond in Dublin. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
