In the science and art of edu cation, as in the science and art of health, we should study the pa thology as well as the physiology of our theme. Therefore, the mission, methods, and results of punishment by the state for moral disorder when manifested in open wrong-doing are proper subjects for the con sideration of all educators who would understand more than the mere routine of school work.
