"This book presents a unique rendering of love in South Asia by reading love through the specific lens of dissent. It presents multiple articulations of dissenting love in contemporary South Asia including negotiations with parents to assert choice of partner, migration, elopement, live-in relationships, singlehood, 'new' ideas of masculinities, and embracing diverse sexual identities. It studies these forms of dissent in the context of changing legal discourses, impact of media in everyday life, and transforming social attitudes. As such, this book is the first of its kind to analyse the myriad ways in which love and dissent constitute each other shaping the social, political, and cultural mores and movements of South Asia. The contributions are based on ethnographic research cutting across diverse religious, ethnic, and gender and sexual identities of South Asia. Part of the Social Movements and Transformative Dissent series, this book will be of interest to students and researchers of sociology, anthropology, history, geography, political science, gender studies, and media studies. It will also appeal to academics who study South Asia with a special focus on love, intimacy, sexuality, marriage, migration, history, politics and media"--

An introduction to the peoples and cultures of South Asia
A one-volume commentary, written and edited by South Asian Biblical scholars on all the books of the Bible.
"Mayuree Mahal" is an empirically verified sociological novel about love, relation, religion and south Asian nationality not like Taj Mahal of India or Rani Mahal of Nepal however, it is a similar heart touching gift of divine love to a lover on 21st century south Asia. A rich Indian Marwari girl weds a poor orphan Nepali boy and they make a romantic honeymoon trip on Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. They travel entire south Asia, make a crazy business plan, earn huge money, establish business firm in each country. They have analyzed the geography, art, culture, sociology, economy and political history of the region from the post postmodern feminists' perspectives. It analyses every nook and corner of south Asian religions (Hinduism, Islamism, Buddhism and Christianity), arts and cultures. It has analyzed the Mahabharata, the Ramayana, rituals and festivals scientifically. It advocates for a single south Asian Nationality. The chief assumption of the novel is, "The world's largest democracy with nuclear power- India and Pakistan will be a counter to USA, or Russia, if we can settle the Kashmir disputes". The novel has attempted to re explore the Indus civilization and redefine the God. The young couple have explored and demonstrated the best solutions to seven decade long debated China, India and Pakistan's tripartite Kashmir disputes. It will be a guide book for south Asian young teen lovers and parents about love relation, culture and society. South Asia is not rigid on love, relations and sexual activities but practice it is against the young generation it has been analyzed from the scientific religious perspectives of south Asian cultures.
This volume presents a conceptual, historical, anthropological, and sociological review of how culture affects our experience and expression of romantic love. What is romantic love and how is it different from and similar to other kinds of love? How is romantic love related to sex and marriage in human history and across contemporary cultures? What cultural factors mediate attraction in love? These are some of the questions the volume explores through its interdisciplinary yet focused lens. Much of the current research evidence suggests that love is a universal emotion experienced by a majority of people, in various historical eras, and in all the world’s cultures. Yet, love displays in different ways because culture has an impact on people’s conceptions of love and the ways they feel, think, and behave in romantic relationships. This volume summarizes classical knowledge on love and culture while at the same time focusing sharply on recent studies and cutting-edge research that has advanced the field. Divided into three parts, the volume begins by defining and analyzing the concept of romantic love and interdisciplinary approach to its study in cultural context. Part II traces the origin and evolution of romantic love both in various places throughout the world and various time periods throughout history. Part III presents the revolutionary expansion of romantic love ideas and practices in the late 20th and early 21st centuries in various parts of the world, focusing particularly on the development of romantic love as a cultural ideal of the modern cultures. Finally, the book concludes by summarizing the major achievements in this field of study and predicts future development. A timely and thoughtful addition to the literature, Romantic Love in Cultural Contexts delivers thought-provoking insights to researchers in relationship scholarship, sociology, anthropology, and cultural studies, and all those interested in the universal human concept of love. Overall I find Dr. Victor Karandashev is an excellent and fine scholar who has a firm grasp of both the fundamental principles of cross-cultural research and of anthropology. In our increasingly connected world Romantic Love in Cultural Contexts updates and adds to the descriptions and explanations of similarities and differences in romantic love across generations and cultures. Romantic love encompasses the life span, rather than being a phenomenon largely confined to youthful years. The topic of this project concerns the deepest of our sentiments and pervades life from birth to death. This book contributes to better knowledge of this phenomenon across generations. In this issue: "As South Asia reflects on priorities while dealing with the crisis, it is a good time to take stock of the costs of noncooperative relationships, and the possibilities available for a less hostile, and more prosperous and stable future."
"More than twenty-five years in the making, this detailed sourcebook on Buddhist understandings of sexuality, desire, ethics, and deviance in classical South Asia is filled with both engaging translations and original and provocative analysis. Cabezón marshals an incredible array of scriptures, legal and medical texts, and philosophical treatises, explaining the subtleties of this ancient literature in lucid prose. This work will be of immense interest not only to scholars of Buddhism and gender studies but also to lay readers who want to learn more about traditional Buddhist attitudes toward sex"--Page 2 of dust jacket.
