What is the "way of the LORD" in the book of Isaiah? Many scholars have adopted Walter Zimmerli's proposal that the "way" in Second Isaiah is a literal and physical highway extending from Babylon to Jerusalem only to be reinterpreted as a spiritual, metaphorical, and pious way of living in Third Isaiah. This book will properly define each mention of the "way" in Isaiah as well as provide a coherent interpretation of this theme's theological significance within the book. The way of the LORD is initially conceived of in the 1st half of the book as a highway leading to Zion common to both the dispersed Israelites as well as the nations. In Isaiah, Chs 34-35 provide a paradigm of what this way will entail and its theological significance.
Based on Matthew 25:31-"46, these meditations offer new "ears" to truly hear Christ and new "eyes" to truly see Him in those He calls us to help.
Yours Is the Day, Lord, Yours Is the Night gives a framework for prayerful devotions with a morning and evening prayer for each day of the year. The prayers have been selected to reflect the seasons and the liturgical calendar. They are intended not to replace your personal, spontaneous prayers but to serve as a springboard for them. Editors Jeanie and David Gushee have collected inspiring contributions from Protestant, Catholic, and Eastern Orthodox sources; from all continents; from the Old Testament; and from each century of Christian history. Yours Is the Day, Lord, Yours Is the Night will enhance your commitment to God and personal connection to the Christian tradition and the Church universal.
The author of Desiring God reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Includes a study guide for individual and small-group use. Isn’t it true—we really don’t know someone until we understand what makes that person happy? And so it is with God! What does bring delight to the happiest Being in the universe? John Piper writes, that it’s only when we know what makes God glad that we’ll know the greatness of His glory. Therefore, we must comprehend “the pleasures of God.” Unlike so much of what is written today, this is not a book about us. It is about the One we were made for—God Himself. In this theological masterpiece—chosen by World Magazine as one of the 20th Century’s top 100 books, John Piper reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Then we will be able to drink deeply—and satisfyingly—from the only well that offers living water. What followers of Jesus need now, more than anything else, is to know and love—behold and embrace—the great, glorious, sovereign, happy God of the Bible. “This is a unique and precious book that everybody should read more than once.” —J.I. PACKER, Regent College, Vancouver, British Columbia
New York Times bestseller What is Jesus worth to you? It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily... But who do you know who lives like that? Do you? In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus. Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment -- a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.
The only true and unedited telling of the life of Christ—his life and times, in historical context, but not lacking the psychology behind his physical being and spirit. Unlike other books seeking to strip Jesus' story to reveal only the human being, Romano Guardini's The Lord gives the complete story of Jesus Christ—as man, Holy Ghost, and Creator. Pope Benedict XVI lauds Guardini's work as providing a full understanding of the Son of God, away from the prejudice that rationality engenders. Put long-held myths aside and discover the entire truth about God's only begotten Son.
Scripture reveals a God who meets us where we are, not where we pretend to be. No More Faking Fine is your invitation to get honest with God through the life-giving language of lament. If you've ever been given empty clichés during challenging times, you know how painful it is to be misunderstood by well-meaning people. When life hurts, we often feel pressure--from others and ourselves--to keep it together, suck it up, or pray it away. But Scripture reveals a God who lovingly invites us to give honest voice to our emotions when life hits hard. For most of her life, Esther Fleece Allen believed she could bypass the painful emotions of her broken past by shutting them down altogether. She was known as an achiever and an overcomer on the fast track to success. But in silencing her pain, she robbed herself of the opportunity to be healed. Maybe you've done the same. Esther's journey into healing began when she discovered that God has given us a real-world way to deal with raw emotions and an alternative to the coping mechanisms that end up causing more pain. It's called lament--the gut-level, honest prayer that God never ignores, never silences, and never wastes. No More Faking Fine is your permission to lament, taking you on a journey down the unexpected pathway to true intimacy with God. Drawing from careful biblical study and hard-won insight, Esther reveals how to use God's own language to come closer to him as he leads us through our pain to the light on the other side, teaching you that: We are robbing ourselves of a divine mystery and a divine intimacy when we pretend to have it all together God does not expect us to be perfect; instead, he meets us where we are There is hope beyond your heartache, disappointment, and grief Like Esther, you'll soon find that when one person stops faking fine, it gives everyone else permission to do the same.
Hello, I'm Lord's servant Shalom, Min. While accompanying the Holy Spirit, he impressed me to meditate on Ephesus. It's just a small meditation compared to Martin Lloyd Jones's Ephesus or other great believers' sermons on the strong side, but I look forward to your relationship with the Lord. Recently, I read Ephesus repeatedly, but I was moved to meditate on the contents of my life first after discovering the amazing truth in my life these days. The Lord says we have something to save first. If there is any prayer that we should seek more than anything, it is a prayer that seeks his country and righteousness. There is a great secret and amazing spiritual abundance in this prayer. There is also this prayer in the Lord\'s Prayer, which we know well. Through this meditation, I enter deeper Imjae and seek the righteousness of the kingdom of God in me and the will of the Lord is fulfilled. If you go to church, there's no one who doesn't know the Lord's Prayer. But not many people will realize what the depth and height of the prayer is and pray for it. They often memorize it like a spell that is nothing more or less than just a closing ceremony at the end of worship. I watched the movie Paul the other day, and the most impressive scene was the scene where I memorized the Lord's Prayer with one heart. I remember praying together and couldn't hold back my tears. We found that the confession of those who are about to be martyred, the confession of saints who send martyrs, and Paul's confession that will soon be martyred were melted in the Lord's Prayer. The last thing you will hate the most is the division. This is because in the Lord's Prayer, there is a great prayer that the kingdom of the division is destroyed, the church is built, and the head of the division is broken. On the contrary, God is most pleased with the prayer that the Lord has taught. Because it is a prayer in which the kingdom and will of God are fulfilled, and God is honored. This book is highly recommended to Christians who do not know what, how, or why to pray for. Also, I am sure it will be of great benefit to those who are already working hard in prayer or who have built many altars of prayer. First of all, I post this article to God while I cherish it in my heart and adore it to be a life, not words and writing. May the kingdom of God come to my soul, in my life, in my home, in my workplace, in my ministry, in my church, in Korea, and in all heat, and may your will be fulfilled. Jesus the Amen Lord, come! Then I'll meet you in heaven!
