Covers all branches of number theory.
The 15 papers of this selection of contributions to the Journées Arithmétiques 1987 include both survey articles and original research papers and represent a cross-section of topics such as Abelian varieties, algebraic integers, arithmetic algebraic geometry, additive number theory, computational number theory, exponential sums, modular forms, transcendence and Diophantine approximation, uniform distribution.
Contains a collection of papers devoted primarily to transcendental number theory and diophantine approximations. This title includes a text of the author's invited address on his work on the theory of transcendental numbers to the 1978 International Congress of Mathematicians in Helsinki.
In these notes the abstract theory of analytic one-parameter semigroups in Banach algebras is discussed, with the Gaussian, Poisson and fractional integral semigroups in convolution Banach algebras serving as motivating examples. Such semigroups are constructed in a Banach algebra with a bounded approximate identity. Growth restrictions on the semigroup are linked to the structure of the underlying Banach algebra. The Hille-Yosida Theorem and a result of J. Esterle's on the nilpotency of semigroups are proved in detail. The lecture notes are an expanded version of lectures given by the author at the University of Edinburgh in 1980 and can be used as a text for a graduate course in functional analysis.
This book aims to introduce the core model to those with a basic knowledge of axiomatic set theory. The covering lemma for K is the main technical result but other applications are also considered.
This 1987 volume presents a collection of papers given at the 1985 Durham Symposium on homotopy theory. They survey recent developments in the subject including localisation and periodicity, computational complexity, and the algebraic K-theory of spaces.
