The Bible is by far the leading source of inspiration for Western literature, and in particular, the life of Jesus has drawn the attention of artists and writers throughout the ages. Now, in a volume of astonishing range and originality, Robert Atwan, George Dardess, and Peggy Rosenthal present 280 remarkable poems from world literature focusing on Jesus's life and teaching. Readers accustomed to the predictable inclusions of many anthologies will be surprised and delighted by the diversity of poets represented here, from Aquinas, Dante, de Guevara, Donne, and Sor Juana, to D.H. Lawrence, Gabriela Mistral, Wole Soyinka, Margaret Atwood, Gwendolyn Brooks, Czeslaw Milosz, and Leopold Senghor. Perhaps no other thematically organized anthology could have brought together writers as different as Jorge Luis Borges, Thomas Merton, Alice Walker, Rainer Maria Rilke, and Jack Kerouac. Indeed, simply to turn the page in Divine Inspiration is an adventure in itself. And in terms of form, style, modulations of tone and perspective, the variety here is as unparalleled as it is unpredictable. The editors of Divine Inspiration have done a masterful job of unifying this vast assortment of poems. Organized chronologically around the life of Jesus, the book is divided into nine sections--from Birth and Infancy, through Healings and Miracles, to the Resurrection-- and presents passages from the Gospels followed by the poems they inspired. This structure gives readers the dual pleasures of a strong narrative pull punctuated by moments of lyric intensity. Our familiarity with the life of Jesus is thus enlivened, deepened, and in some cases wholly transformed by the imaginative power of the poems. In the largest section of the book, on the Passion of Jesus, we find an array of poems by Anna Akhmatova, Antonio Machado, Thomas Hardy, Miguel de Unamuno, Charles Baudelaire, R.S. Thomas, Andrew Marvell, Frederico Garcia Lorca, and Denise Levertov, among others. To see the Passion of Jesus refracted through the lenses of such poets is to see it anew, or more vividly than before. And to encounter Chinese, Korean, Nigerian, Arab, Latin American, Scandinavian, Hungarian, and Greek poets alongside English, French, and German is a testimony both to the editors' devoted scholarship and to the power of Jesus's life to inspire great poetry across a spectrum of cultures and eras. An invaluable sourcebook for students, scholars, and general readers alike, Divine Inspiration should prove equally satisfying to readers with a strong interest in religion and to all lovers of poetry.
"Jesus - My Joy is a selection of 39 poems by author Tania Rovere about what Jesus means to her in her life. Tania says the inspiration for the poems comes from Jesus' great love for people and she believes that Jesus can fill you, too, with His peace, hope and unconditional love." -- Back cover.
These poems, most of them originally songs, are a vehicle by which I have attempted to express my deepest feelings of love and admiration for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I hope the words and emotions found in this collection of poetry will give valuable insight and meaning to everyone who reads them. This book also contains a few other kinds of poems of inspiration. May God bless you-
For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness" (Psalm 18:28, KJV) Joy and peace are what we hope for in our lives. In this collection of simple, easy-to-read poems, you will see how the Lord provides hope, joy, and peace in life's circumstances. His light will deliver you from the darkness in this world.
Reclaim Your Headspace and Find Your One True Voice As a hospital chaplain, J.S. Park encountered hundreds of patients at the edge of life and death, listening as they urgently shared their stories, confessions, and final words. J.S. began to identify patterns in his patients’ lives—patterns he also saw in his own life. He began to see that the events and traumas we experience throughout life become deafening voices that remain within us, even when the events are far in the past. He was surprised to find that in hearing the voices of his patients, he began to identify his own voices and all the ways they could both harm and heal. In The Voices We Carry, J.S. draws from his experiences as a hospital chaplain to present the Voices Model. This model explores the four internal voices of self-doubt, pride, people-pleasing, and judgment, and the four external voices of trauma, guilt, grief, and family dynamics. He also draws from his Asian-American upbringing to examine the challenges of identity and feeling “other.” J.S. outlines how to wrestle with our voices, and even befriend them, how to find our authentic voice in a world of mixed messages, and how to empower those who are voiceless. Filled with evidence-based research, spiritual and psychological insights, and stories of patient encounters, The Voices We Carry is an inspiring memoir of unexpected growth, humor, and what matters most. For those wading through a world of clamor and noise, this is a guide to find your clear, steady voice.
A Journey with Jesus is a collection of poems inspired by God for the journey to know Him more. It was April 1972, two weeks before Easter that my father died. My world crumbled..I knew there had to be a deeper faith. My journey began as I intentionally sought to know Him through Bible study and in reading His Word. The following Easter, I realized with deeper understanding, that Jesus death was Gods unmerited gift to me. I understood the paradox of death.. A terrible loss but also, a gift. The death of Jesus brought the gift of eternal life; my dads death led me on a journey to understand the magnitude of Gods great gift. My journey with Jesus began in 1972 and continues today. I believe that as you read these poems in your own quiet time, you too, can hear the voice of the Good Shepherd and become that little lamb who loves the shepherd.
The poetry collection Poems to Jesus Christ Volume III: The Holy Spirit is about the spiritual journey of a mans soul through his discovery of his gift for writing poetry when he experienced a spiritual awakening while he was teaching poor people in Asia. The poet went through a three-year-long depression trying to understand what God wanted him to do with his life after his return to America. The following poems were inspired during this rebirth of his talent, which brought out the best of his gift for poetry while making his faith in God stronger. This book completes the poets spiritual journey and his promise to Jesus Christ to write three books of spiritual poetry as a thank-you gift to Jesus Christ, God, and the Holy Spirit for always being by his side and saving his life so many times and helping him get out of his depression. The first book described to God the pain of the world, sadness, and sorrow. The second book included more happier and optimistic prayers written in poetic form. The third book completes the circle of happiness and evolution of the poets return to the world and to happiness, focusing on the beauty of life.
In Jesus Keeps Singing over Us, Adjoua opens her heart and shares in poetry form some of her experiences as a Christian and how it has been a blessing for her. Based on the Bible verse Zephaniah 3:17, her poetry comes straight from her personal life and how she has seen the Lord work. She has known him to be a God that sings over His people. She has poems such as His Righteous Ways, where she writes about being saved and how his righteousness is transforming her into someone special. Her poem Waves of Grace gets into the power of living in a dying world but not having the burden of it affecting her. Her poetry stands out because it invites the reader to a sacred place of worship where she praises Jesus Christ. All are welcomed to join in. Adjoua wants to declare to the world everything she knows so far about this awesome God! And if you dont know him, now is the chance . . . through poetry.
What does it, mean? Only creativity knows. The minds of seven creative people wonder what it means. They know only what they can know. Definition limits, but what limit is there to creativity? They know who they are. But in the end, they know what it means. Do you know what it means?
