Nowadays, the Internet is the most commonly used medium for the exchange of data in di?erent forms. Presently, over 60 million machines have access to the Internet and to its resources. However, the Internet is also the largest distributed system o?ering di?erent computational services and possibilities not only for cluster computing. If the needs of modern mobile computing and multimedia systems are taken into account, it becomes clear that modern methods must ensure an e?ective development and management of the Internet allowing each user fast access to this huge resource space. The Innovative Internet Computing Systems workshop is organized by the Gesellschaft fur ̈ Informatik(GI) in Germany. It intends to be an open me- ing point for scientists dealing with di?erent aspects of this complex topic. In contrast to the Distributed Communities on the Web workshops, which can be 2 considered as the roots of I CS, special attention is given to fundamental - search works and the application of theoretical and formal results in practical implementations.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the second international workshop on Innovative Internet Computing Systems, IICS 2002, held in Khlungsborn, Germany, in June 2002. The 19 revised full papers presented together with an invited paper were carefully reviewed and selected from over 30 submissions. Among the topics addressed are large-scale distributed computing infrastructures presenting new challenges to information and Web technology, the management and retrieval of web-based information, content classification, web-based communities management, structure and retrieval of information from large distributed data bases, and the representation of the distributed nature of information by means of graph-theoretical models.
Thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 5th International Workshop on Innovative Internet Community Systems, IICS 2005, held in Paris, France, in June 2005. The 17 revised full papers presented have been carefully reviewed and selected from 27 submissions. They mainly address system-oriented problems, content and text processing, and theoretical foundations of quality-of-service problems of Internet protocols, aspects of cooperation and collaboration in Internet systems, as well as agent and text-processing-based methods.
The main objective of pervasive computing systems is to create environments where computers become invisible by being seamlessly integrated and connected into our everyday environment, where such embedded computers can then provide inf- mation and exercise intelligent control when needed, but without being obtrusive. Pervasive computing and intelligent multimedia technologies are becoming incre- ingly important to the modern way of living. However, many of their potential applications have not yet been fully realized. Intelligent multimedia allows dynamic selection, composition and presentation of the most appropriate multimedia content based on user preferences. Pervasive computing (often synonymously called ubiquitous computing, palpable computing or ambient intelligence) is an emerging ?eld of research that brings in revolutionary paradigms for computing models in the 21st century. Pervasive c- puting is the trend towards increasingly ubiquitous connected computing devices in the environment, a trend being brought about by a convergence of advanced el- tronic – and particularly, wireless – technologies and the Internet. Recent advances in pervasive computers, networks, telecommunications and information technology, along with the proliferation of multimedia mobile devices – such as laptops, iPods, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and cellular telephones – have further stimulated the development of intelligent pervasive multimedia applications. This book comprises a set of papers selected from those presented at the fifth « International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems », (ICEIS’2003) held in Angers, France, from 23 to 26 April 2003. The conference was organised by École Supérieure d’Électronique de l’Ouest (ESEO) of Angers, France and the Escola Superior de Tecnologia of Setúbal, Portugal. Since its first edition in 1999, ICEIS focuses on real world applications and aims at bringing together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in the advances and business applications of information systems. As in previous years, ICEIS’2003 held four simultaneous tracks covering different aspects of enterprise computing: Databases and Information Systems Integration, Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support Systems, Information Systems Analysis and Specification and Software Agents and Internet Computing. Although ICEIS’2003 received 546 paper submissions from over 50 countries, only 80 were accepted as full papers and presented in 30-minutes oral presentations. With an acceptance rate of 15%, these numbers demonstrate the intention of preserving a high quality forum for future editions of this conference. From the articles accepted as long papers for the conference, only 32 were selected for inclusion in this book Additional keynote lectures, tutorials and industrial sessions were also held during ICEIS’2003, and, for the first time this year, the 1st Doctoral Consortium on Enterprise Information Systems gave PhD students an opportunity to present their work to an international audience of experts in the field of information systems.
