Correspondence from Increase Allen Lapham to John Torrey, dated 1838-1842, discussing the flora of the Amrican Midwest, and the many plant specimens being sent back and forth between himself, Torrey, and other botanists. The collection includes a calling card from Lapham's daughter, Julia A. Lapham, with the handwritten note, "I thank you for the use of these letters. Oconomoc, Wis. May 24th, 1897." Obsolete plant names mentioned include Crataegus flexuosa, Nasturtium hispidum, Rosa sayi, and Triticum pauciflorum.
