John Arthur was born in Illinois and moved to Indiana when he was two years old. His parents chose a small town east of Indianapolis that was the birthplace of James Whitcomb Riley. Perhaps growing up in this historical town had an influence on John that inspired him to express his feelings in poetry. James Whitcomb Rileys poems were often tales of ordinary events like the porch swing in Waitin Fer the Cat to Die, the young woman that helped around the house in Little Orphant Annie and swimming in the creek in The Old Swimmin Hole. Like J. W. Riley, John has written poems that capture the significant events in his life from the day he left the Mid-West for California to the present. He has included a dialog where he describes the events in his life that lead up to the poetry. He also includes a broader vision of what he has learned about himself and others along the way in his pursuit of happiness. He is deeply compelled to share what he has learned in order to encourage his readers to begin their pursuit of happiness earlier in their life, so they have more of their life to enjoy. Life is too short to let the down times keep you down. Read his book and begin your path to happiness.
This friendly picture book helps young children make sense of mixed-up emotions. Happy, and also sad. Excited, but nervous too. Feeling friendly, with a little shyness mixed in. Mixed feelings are natural, but they can be confusing. There are different kinds of happy—the quiet kind and the “noisy, giggly, jump and run” kind. And there are conflicting feelings, like proud and jealous, frustrated and determined. With gentle messaging and charming illustrations, a little girl talks about her many layered feelings, ultimately concluding, “When I have more than one feeling inside me, I don’t have to choose just one. I know that all my feelings are okay at the same time.” A special section for adults presents ideas for helping children explore their emotions, build a vocabulary of feeling words, know what to do if they feel overwhelmed, and more.
I want to be happy because I never was. I want to live what I have left with you. Tomorrow I'll never know if I'm alive. And the only thing I can take with me is my happiness. Now I'm happy here! I leave aside my pains, my envy and I will join the world of victorious people! Faith crosses the tunnel of courage. It makes the impossible become possible! I'd rather not remember a life full of lations. What I want is a life filled with magical moments! I did many hours of work, to win a little more, I fought everything for a true love, I fought everything to have a house, I did what I thought I could do, everything changed in my life. Thank God you're such a wonderful person. Above all, be happy. You'll be unhappy today. Be happy now, and never tomorrow. God is Love and love is God. He wants me to smile now and be happy! Experience more joy and meaning each day—and have greater resilience when times get tough What if you could be happier, right now, without radically changing your life? As nationally recognized happiness expert Nataly Kogan teaches, happiness is not a nice feeling or a frivolous extra. It’s a critical, non-negotiable ingredient for living a fulfilling, meaningful, and healthy life—and it’s a skill that we can all learn and improve through practice. In Happier Now, Nataly shares an illuminating, inspiring, and science-based guide to help you build your happier skills and live with more joy, starting now. Nataly’s own journey from Russian refugee to successful investor, tech executive, and founder and CEO of Happier taught her an important lesson: no matter how much you accomplish, how much you live the "right" way, or even how much gratitude you practice, life won’t always be smooth. "We experience genuine and lasting happiness when we stop trying to turn the negative into the positive," Nataly writes, "and when we embrace the full range of our human emotions with compassion and strength." Throughout this engaging guide, Nataly describes how she went from being cynical and resistant to the ideas behind self-improvement and spirituality, to studying everything she could on the science of happiness, to completely shifting her mind-set. You’ll learn five core practices for building your happier skills—acceptance, gratitude, intentional kindness, knowing your bigger why, and self-care—along with the scientific research that supports each one. Highlights include: Daily Anchors—Cultivate a custom set of simple daily practices, fine-tuned for your emotional health needs • Bring more joy and meaning into your life as it is—without needing to make difficult or time-consuming changes • How happiness leads to many of the things you want in life, rather than results from them • Learn an effective five-minute happier workout for whenever you need a boost • Strengthen your "emotional immune system" so you can be okay when times are tough—and bounce back to happy sooner • Specific instructions for tools and techniques that work—based on what’s actually happening in your brain • Effective exercises, journaling prompts, and key insights for developing each core happier skill As Nataly says: "It’s time to stop saying ‘I’ll be happy when . . .’ and start saying ‘I’m happier now because . . .’"
It’s time to get serious about playfulness! When was the last time you felt really, truly happy? If you’ve ever longed to leave your exhausting days and fretful nights behind, look no further. Courtney recounts a courageous—and often hilarious!—experiment in joy and delight as she awakens to the truth that God doesn’t just want us to be holy, but happy, too! A whimsical storyteller who combines witty humor and engaging research with unfettered honesty, in Happy Now Courtney Ellis is a wise guide on an uplifting journey from sad to spirited. You’ll discover there is almost nothing that playfulness cannot make a little bit better, a little bit easier, and a lot more fun. Lift your mood, lighten your load, and renew your spirit with the power of playfulness. Happy Now: Let Playfulness Lift Your Load and Renew Your Spirit is a rollicking, investigative, and thoughtful invitation to open ourselves to the joy and freedom of play all over again. It is designed to invite readers to let go of their most serious selves, grant them permission to engage in curiosity and wonder of all kinds, and delight in the release of its transformative effects: creativity, innovation, delight, rest, and—above all—a more trusting relationship with Jesus. Through wry observations, firsthand experience, Scriptural study, and broad research, Ellis addresses questions like: How does God invite us into play? What does it mean that we are created for curiosity? In what ways can wonder help us love our neighbors more fully? The world can be a serious place. Because of Jesus, Christians don’t need to be. Dive deeply into the waters of whimsy, embracing the joy God offers. Sometimes that looks like welcoming holy laughter. Other times it’s learning to see mistakes as learning and innovation rather than mess-making. Play brings about transformation and rest and praise. And isn’t that just the reason God created us?
