Big Data technologies have the potential to revolutionize the agriculture sector, in particular food safety and quality practices. This book is designed to provide a foundational understanding of various applications of Big Data in Food Safety. Big Data requires the use of sophisticated approaches for cleaning, processing and extracting useful information to improve decision-making. The contributed volume reviews some of these approaches and algorithms in the context of real-world food safety studies. Food safety and quality related data are being generated in large volumes and from a variety of sources such as farms, processors, retailers, government organizations, and other industries. The editors have included examples of how big data can be used in the fields of bacteriology, virology and mycology to improve food safety. Additional chapters detail how the big data sources are aggregated and used in food safety and quality areas such as food spoilage and quality deterioration along the supply chain, food supply chain traceability, as well as policy and regulations. The volume also contains solutions to address standardization, data interoperability, and other data governance and data related technical challenges. Furthermore, this volume discusses how the application of machine-learning has successfully improved the speed and/or accuracy of many processes in the food supply chain, and also discusses some of the inherent challenges. Included in this volume as well is a practical example of the digital transformation that happened in Dubai, with a particular emphasis on how data is enabling better decision-making in food safety. To complete this volume, researchers discuss how although big data is and will continue to be a major disruptor in the area of food safety, it also raises some important questions with regards to issues such as security/privacy, data control and data governance, all of which must be carefully considered by governments and law makers.
Smart food safety series, highlights new advances in the field, with this new volume presenting interesting chapters. Each chapter is written by an international board of authors.
With the convergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), the traditional methods of farming are undergoing transformation. By harnessing the power of data-driven insights and automation, farmers can now make informed decisions in real time, optimize resource utilization, and mitigate risks associated with crop management and livestock welfare. This book serves as a guide to the integration of IoT and AI in agriculture and discusses the methodologies, applications, and challenges in this rapidly evolving field. It details various aspects of smart farming—from crop monitoring and precision agriculture to livestock management and food supply chain transparency—and provides insight into the potential of IoT and AI to revolutionize agricultural practices and address the global challenges of food security, environmental sustainability, and economic development. Understanding the complex interplay between food safety, nutrition, bioscience, and data algorithms is crucial for effectively managing autoimmune diseases. However, the current literature often needs a comprehensive resource that integrates these disciplines, leaving researchers, clinicians, and industry professionals needing a clearer understanding of how to apply these concepts in practice. This gap in knowledge hinders the development of personalized nutrition plans and precision health interventions, ultimately limiting the effectiveness of autoimmune disease management strategies. Nutrition Controversies and Advances in Autoimmune Disease brings to the table more than a mere theoretical guide. It offers practical applications and case studies that bring to life the latest research and developments in the fields of food safety, nutrition, bioscience, and data algorithms. By integrating these disciplines, the book provides readers with the knowledge and tools to develop personalized nutrition plans and implement precision health interventions for autoimmune diseases, making it a valuable resource for anyone in the field.
Digital innovation — involving the Internet, its content and ecosystems of global users — is a rapidly evolving way of creating strategic and societal value. The phenomenon of Open data is on the rise and transforming the fundamental nature of how many industries, companies and governments connect with each other and the end-users of products and services — from increased customer-centric innovations, to winning political campaigns, and managing public health concerns. Open data holds the promise of greater transparency, greater accountability and empowerment of stakeholders. Yet curating and publicly sharing data can be difficult, requires substantive investments in knowledge infrastructures and incentives to do so are not well understood. Who is driving and enabling the open data movement? What motivates organizations to release data and how are they using it to create value? What are the current challenges and how are they being mitigated? What are the decision-frames adopted for sharing data? What are the possible applications and lessons to be learnt from current practices? What is the role of organisational ingredients and culture as a catalyst for adopting and facilitating open data practices? What is the possible impact of semantic web application? By exploring the multiple dimensions of open data and the interplay of economic utility, governance, societal values of fairness and trust, this volume seeks to entice readers by providing evidence-based answers to these questions, among others. Readers are tempted to a progressively revealing and enlightening journey from the conceptualisation to cultural proliferation of the latest trends in knowledge management: open data.Digital Innovation: Harnessing the Value of Open Data draws on practical experiences, bringing together widely distributed and latest knowledge of open data practices as case studies from researchers, academics, industry leaders, policy advisors and practitioners. In exploring the economics and technology paradigms, data governance and management practices of digital-centric private and public organizations, this volume sheds light on why there exists a need to embrace open data, what is needed to optimize the value of open data in driving digital innovation and how it is being currently conceived. The book draws a thought-provoking conclusion on open data as a purpose-driven phenomenon, with its disparate applications in a world of where global convergence on information sharing, storing and management are increasingly becoming a norm.Related Link(s)
Rapid changes in business along with better informed customers threaten the traditional sales and procurement process. Thousands of sales and procurement people are threatened with extinction, yet all is not destined to be doom and gloom. A new way of partnering between these two roles can, in fact, create significant value for both organizations. Sales and procurement professionals have a bright future ahead of them if they can respond to six trends that the authors have identified in the business-to-business world. Each trend offers an opportunity to develop a new skill for sales and procurement professionals and adopt a new practice. Because these practices are not yet widely adopted as “best practices”, the authors coin them “next practices.” These trends include: working together to solve complex problems; organizing problem-solving networks across company boundaries; creating processes for live cross-company engagement; facilitating data driven, cross-company interactions fed by digital platforms; providing new personal experiences for individuals and lastly (and most importantly) creating new sources of value for firms. If these trends are adopted by organizations, the ability to co-create means providing significant value to both the sales management team at the supplier and the purchasing management team at the customer. With the alternative being that these job functions will be replaced by web-based or channel-based alternatives that will do most of what they do today at a fraction of the cost. Increasingly, there is no middle ground anymore. SAMs and senior buyers will either evolve into high value-added sales and procurement professionals, or disappear.

While many effective interventions have been developed with the potential to significantly reduce morbidity and mortality from cancer, they are of no benefit to the health of populations if they cannot be delivered. In response to this challenge, Advancing the Science of Implementation across the Cancer Continuum provides an overview of research that can improve the delivery of evidence-based interventions in cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and survivorship. Chapters explore the field of implementation science and its application to practice, a broad synthesis of relevant research and case studies illustrating each cancer-focused topic area, and emerging issues at the intersection of research and practice in cancer. Both comprehensive and accessible, this book is an ideal resource for researchers, clinical and public health practitioners, medical and public health students, and health policymakers.
