The sequel to R. A. Comunale's highly praised first novel Requiem for the Bone Man follows the continuing story of Dr. Robert Galen and his friends, Robert and Nancy Edison, as they adjust to semiretirement on a mountaintop in northeastern Pennsylvania, raising and caring for the three orphaned Hidalgo children they rescued and adopted. Along the way, the six residents of the mountain interact with a variety of individuals—human and animal—who also are seeking sanctuary, and even redemption, on the property that becomes known as Safehaven. In ways mystical, magical, and even heroic, Comunale once again envelops readers in a fictional world that is often harrowing, but always captivating.

This story is rich and haunting, with a potent kind of magic that’s barely contained, and an incredible cast of indomitable and morally complex characters." –FlyLef Reviews "Monstrum was another dashing read and I can’t wait to see what Kat Ross does next. At the 2013 "Celebrating The Hobbit" conference at Valparaiso University--marking the 75th anniversary of the book's publication and the first installment of Peter Jackson's Hobbit movies--two plenary papers were presented: "Anchoring the Myth: The Impact of The Hobbit on Tolkien's Legendarium" by John D. Rateliff provided numerous examples of The Hobbit's influence on Tolkien's legendarium; and "Tolkien's French Connections" by Verlyn Flieger discussed French influences on the development of Bilbo Baggins and his adventures. In discussions with the plenary speakers and other presenters, it became apparent that a book focusing on how The Hobbit influenced the subsequent development of Tolkien's legendarium was sorely needed. This collection of 15 previously unpublished essays fills that need. With Rateliff's and Flieger's papers included, the book presents two chapters on the Evolution of the Dwarven Race, two chapters on Durin's Day examining the Dwarven lunar calendar, and 11 chapters on themes exploring various topics on influences and revisions between The Hobbit and Tolkien's legendarium.
A detailed account of the circumstances and motives of the first crusaders.
Edmund Harkins has gone missing. Few would confess to liking the man – a wife-beater and distinctly unsavoury character – so when some hungry pigs disinter his corpse in a shallow grave, there is hardly an outpouring of grief. However, this intensifies the problem Sir Hugh faces: as bailiff of Bampton it is his duty to discover who has slain Edmund. But if he does, he will earn the enmity of villagers who are pleased the scoundrel is dead, and who knows what repercussions might follow? To further complicate Hugh's life, the Bishop of Exeter has sent a new vicar to Bampton, his nephew, who behaves in an obnoxious manner to Lady Katherine’s maid, and seems obsessed with discovering any heretical views Hugh might hold. The vicar also, it transpires, is contributing to the unhealthy atmosphere of suppression and suspicion that has come to pervade the village . . .
