Departing from an ethnographic collection in London, From Storeroom to Stage traces the journey of its artefacts back to the Romanian villages where they were made 70 years ago, and to other places where similar objects are still in use. The book explores the role that material culture plays in the production of value and meaning by examining how folk objects are mobilized in national ideologies, transmissions of personal and family memory, museological discourses, and artistic acts.
By examining how folk objects are mobilized in national ideologies, transmissions of personal and family memory, museological discourses, and artistic acts, From Storeroom to Stage explores the role that material culture plays in the production of value and meaning. Departing from a museum collection in London, the book traces in reverse the journey of these artefacts to the villages where they were made, as well as to other spaces. It also looks at the places where this movement of objects is halted, and the value of the artefacts is put to test.
Asking whether a genuinely shared European memory is possible while addressing the dangers of a single, homogenized European memory, Gluhovic examines the contradictions, specificities, continuities and discontinuities in the European shared and unshared pasts as represented in the works of Pinter, Tadeusz Kantor, Heiner Muller and Artur Zmijewski.
New fire safety rules affecting all non-domestic premises in England and Wales will come into force on 1 October 2006, in accordance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (S.I. 2005/1541, ISBN 0110729455). This is one of a series of 11 publications which sets out recommendations and guidance for employers, managers, occupiers and owners of particular types of premises on how to carry out a fire risk assessment and how to identify general fire precautions required (including fire detection and warning systems, firefighting equipment, escape routes, signs and training). This guide covers premises where the main use of the building or part of the building is a theatre, cinema, concert hall or combination of these. As well as purpose-built premises, this includes buildings converted for such use. Other guides in the series cover temporary structures used for these purposes: guides for small/medium (ISBN 1851128204) and large (ISBN 1851128212) places of assembly. If the premises are part of, or related to the following, then the relevant guides should also be consulted: educational facilities (ISBN 1851128190), shopping centres (ISBN 1851128158), include sleeping accommodation (ISBN 1851128174), open air events or venues (ISBN 1851128239).

'When directors understand the value of a movement director they remove any sense of hierarchy within the room and place movement directors firmly by their side for they are and should be their co-pilot, navigating and creating the world of the play.' - Joan Iyiola Movement directors work with the physical, living bodies at the heart of theatre productions, creating movement languages with actors and directors. Through a series of in-depth interviews with leading theatre practitioners, Ayse Tashkiran charts the growth of the movement director in contemporary theatre. The voices of Jane Gibson, Sue Lefton, Kate Flatt, Toby Sedgwick, Siân Williams, Struan Leslie, Ellen Kane, Peter Darling, Steven Hoggett, Ann Yee, Imogen Knight and Shelley Maxwell explore processes of creativity, collaboration and innovation for the moving body in performance. The conversations open up: Growth of movement direction through the 20th century New insights into embodied theatre practice Diverse movement approaches and creative preparation Physical trainings and influences Working methods with directors and actors in the rehearsal room Movement for actors in opera, film, television and musical theatre Relationships between movement direction and theatre choreography Potential future developments in the field
