The 1996 Farm Bill extended the Forestry Incentive Program (FIP) to share up to 50 percent of the cost of tree planting, timber stand improvements, and related practices on nonindustrial private forestland. FIP is intended to assure the Nation's ability to meet future demand for sawtimber, pulpwood and quality hardwoods by planting more trees and placing more forestland under good forest management.
