The purpose of this manual is to ensure that Alberta Land & Forest Service personnel and industry: are familiar with current Crown land/forest management herbicide use regulations and policies; take an active role in ensuring that herbicide use on Crown land is in accordance with policies and requirements; recognize violations of herbicide legislation; are comfortable with performing basic herbicide inspections; and are aware of incident reporting mechanisms and follow-up. Sections of the manual cover the following: roles and responsibilities of Alberta government personnel; federal and provincial legislation relating to herbicides; classification, environmental considerations, and application methods of herbicides, as well as those herbicides registered for forestry applications; Land & Forest Service requirements; crop species of concern; prescription evaluation for forest management projects; risk management for herbicide applications; inspections for forest management projects; enforcement provisions; herbicide applications on private land; and herbicide use monitoring.
