Environmental Codes of Practice for steam electric power generation, whichincludes fossil-fuelled (coal, oil, gas) and nuclear-powered (CANDU) generating stations were developed in consultation with afederal-provincial-industry task force. The Design Phase Code addressesprimarily water-related environmental concerns, but not air emissions although water and solid waste concerns associated with air pollution controlsystems are addressed. This volume contains appendices listing task force members, electrical generation and water use data, selectedenvironmental objectives and water quality criteria for new stationarysources, federal regulation of chlorobiphenyls, rationale forrecommendations on once-through cooling systems and wastewaters andmonitoring, and cost implications.
