This book is primarily intended to serve as a research-based textbook on sustainable supply chains for graduate programs in Business, Management, Industrial Engineering, and Industrial Ecology, but it should also be of interest for researchers in the broader sustainable supply chain space, whether from the operations management and industrial engineering side or more from the industrial ecology and life-cycle assessment side. Finding efficient solutions towards a more sustainable supply chain is increasingly important for managers, but clearly this raise difficult questions, often without clear answers. This book aims to provide insights into these kinds of questions for students and practitioners, based on the latest academic research.
Business practices in emerging markets are constantly challenged by the dynamic environments that involve stakeholders. This increases the interconnectedness and collaboration as well as spillover effect among business agents, that may increase or hold back economic stability. This phenomenon is captured in this proceedings volume, a collection of selected papers of the 10th ICBMR 2016 Conference, held October 25—27, 2016 in Lombok, Indonesia. This ICBMR’s theme was Enhancing Business Stability through Collaboration, and the contributions discuss theories, conceptual frameworks and empirical evidence of current issues in the areas of Business, Management, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Islamic Economics, and competitiveness. All topics include aspects of multidisciplinarity and complexity of safety in research and education.
The authors of this book tried to make these experiences available to those interested, considering the experience of several years of training, research, and implementation of projects in the supply chain performance evaluation field. This book intends to identify the current performance and competitive position of that supply chain compared to other supply chains by presenting and reviewing the techniques and models for measuring the efficiency and performance of the supply chain. Determining the performance of a supply chain is a good description of the status quo (what is). Determining the performance of a supply chain is useful for describing the past and present of supply chain processes, and on the other hand, it can be used to set performance goals and initiate the improvement process. To realize this, a strategic framework or model is needed to be able to extract indicators related to the efficiency of the supply chain and design the appropriate model.
This text recognizes the major supply challenges facing all organizations and their purchasing and supply management implications. It also gives solid grounding in the basic tools and techniques along with chances to test comprehension through carefully crafted questions and cases. This 12th edition features: a new chapter on technology and e-commerce that looks at the key issues in applying technology to supply management and discusses options and approaches to e-procurement, catalogue management, auctions and e-marketplaces; 29 new cases (and teaching notes), including four cases in the e-commerce chapter; and real world examples which illustrate supply management practice, including job descriptions from Deere & Company.
A “how-to” guide for supply chain professionals who need accurate cost information for end-to-end processes With the increasing pace of globalization, supply chain professionals find that they have less and less margin for error in their decisions making. Competition is getting more intense, and, unfortunately, CFOs and accountants do not currently provide supply chain managers with the information required to make better decisions. Supply Chain Costing and Performance Management, 2nd Edition, will show you (and the executives you report to) how to understand and apply various enterprise and corporate performance management (EPM/CPM) methods related to costs and profit margins and performance measurements. This book is a “how-to” guide to assist supply chain managers and employee teams to obtain interenterprise cost information on supply chain processes. It provides techniques for obtaining accurate cost and performance information on the activities performed within your firm and on activities performed by trading partners. The techniques and approaches in this book were developed from supply chain costing practices implemented by leading-edge firms. You will learn how you can gain access to reasonably accurate costs and profit margins involved with suppliers, products, stock keeping units (SKUs), service-lines, channels, and customers. In addition, you will gain insight into the activity costs in end-to-end business processes, including the “drivers” for each type of cost. Learn how to access accurate cost and pricing information related to both your company and your trading partners Overcome siloed information by creating your own costing practices using proven methods drawn from leading firms Understand what drives activity costs for each step in end-to-end business processes Assess the performance of your costing activities with step-by-step measurement guidelines Make better decisions and improve performance and profitability with clearer, more transparent cost and price data The information in this book will empower supply chain managers with the ability to make better decisions and improve their organizations’ performance and profitability.
A perfect harmony between man and environment is the essence of healthy life and sustainable growth. And therefore, maintenance of ecological balance and a pristine environment is the need of the hour. This comprehensive book on environmental management discusses various aspects of environment, the ecosystems, effects of global warming and pollution, and various ways to conserve nature and save environment. The eight sections of the book virtually are the eight fundamental components which, in one way or the other, play a crucial role in managing the environment. The book begins with the section on Ecology and classification of ecosystems. It then moves onto the next section on Biodiversity, which discusses the Biodiversity Acts. The book progresses by discussing the third most important section on Environmental degradation, its causes, which include global warming, pollution (air, land and water) and prevention and control. India is an agriculture-based economy, and the next section elaborates on the Agro-ecosystem, its management and techniques of sustainable organic farming. The fifth section of the book on Forest and Wildlife, deals with the serious issues like deforestation, its effects on the environment and the wildlife, and touches upon the most sensitive issue of various animals getting extinct. The next section covering Waste Management (industrial waste, e-waste and solid waste) discusses the legal aspects of hazardous wastes. Environment Legislation, the proceeding section, is on environmental laws, International treaties and green marketing. Finally the eighth section, which focuses on the Ethical Aspects of Environment highlights the important issues like environmental ethics, and how environment is treated in various religions. The book is interspersed with real-life cases to give the topics a reasoned approach. Designed as a text for the postgraduate students of management, this book can be equally useful for the undergraduate students of all disciplines.
This new volume provides detailed insight into supply chain management (SCM) and supply chain performance measurement (SCPM) in the textile industry. The book provides a comprehensive set of performance sub-criteria for the evaluation of SCPM, offering the information needed to understand, implement, and evaluate the supply chain performance of the textile industry and its cyclic processes. Using the Delphi method (a process used to arrive at a group opinion or decision by surveying a panel of experts), the authors studied several companies of diverse sizes and applied an analytical hierarchy process to establish crucial performance measurement criteria and sub-criteria. Around 80 textile industry personnel were contacted, including general managers, factory managers, managers, assistant managers, executives, and supervisors involved in various functions related to textile supply chains to discuss procurement, production, and distribution alternatives. The authors employed the multi-criteria decision-making technique, i.e. analytical hierarchy process, for executing pair-wise comparison and establishing priority weights of criteria, sub-criteria, and for estimating the contribution of supply chain cyclic processes to overall supply chain performance.
