Originating from the work of the late Nobel laureate Ilya Prigogine, ECOSUD 2017 was the 11th International Conference on Ecosystems and Sustainable Development in this long-standing series. This volume contains papers presented at the meeting and covers new research on ecological problems, as well as new ideas and concepts from scientists, engineers, socio-economic specialists and other professionals working in this area. Emphasis is placed on subject areas that would benefit from the application of scientific methods for sustainable development, including the conservation of natural systems around the world whilst also integrating thermodynamics, ecology and economics. Furthermore, the study of distributed systems is addressed in order to avoid transport recovery and waste reduction. Individual topics covered include: Energy systems and the environment; Sustainable development and planning; Ecosystem modelling; Environmental innovative approaches; Natural resources management; Protection and mitigation; Knowledge dissemination; Social responsibility; Sustainability indicators, monitoring and assessment; Urban agriculture; Environmental risk management; Ecosystems recovery; Complex systems in ecology; Ecosystems networks; Biomass issues; Integrated assessment tools.
Containing papers presented at the Sixth International Conference on Ecosystems and Sustainable Development, this book presents research related to different aspects of ecosystems and sustainable development, including physical sciences and modelling. A wide list of topics include: Thermodynamics and Ecology; Sustainability indicators; Mathematical and system modelling; Biodiversity; Sustainability development studies; Conservation and Management of Ecological Areas; Socio-Economic Factors; Energy Conservation and Generation; Environmental and Ecological Policies; Environmental Management; Environmental Risk; Natural Resources Management; Recovery of Damaged Areas; Biological Aspects; Complexity; Remote Sensing; Landscapes and Forestation Issues; Soil and agricultural issues; Water Resources; Sustainable Waste Management; Air pollution and its Effects on Ecosystems.
Contains proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Ecosystems and Sustainable Development (ECOSUD) held in Chianciano Terme, Italy, in 2009.
Jeffrey D. Sachs is one of the world's most perceptive and original analysts of global development. In this major new work he presents a compelling and practical framework for how global citizens can use a holistic way forward to address the seemingly intractable worldwide problems of persistent extreme poverty, environmental degradation, and political-economic injustice: sustainable development. Sachs offers readers, students, activists, environmentalists, and policy makers the tools, metrics, and practical pathways they need to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. Far more than a rhetorical exercise, this book is designed to inform, inspire, and spur action. Based on Sachs's twelve years as director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, his thirteen years advising the United Nations secretary-general on the Millennium Development Goals, and his recent presentation of these ideas in a popular online course, The Age of Sustainable Development is a landmark publication and clarion call for all who care about our planet and global justice.
In the rapid development of global economics, energy, environmental & ecosystem are recognized as important factors for sustainable development in human society. The application of measurement and control technology also play a very important role in the utilization and protection of energy and the environment.2015 International Conference on Energy, Environmental & Sustainable Ecosystem Development (EESED 2015) is a multidisciplinary international conference that provides a platform for scientists, engineers and researchers worldwide to share their ideas and present solutions to energy, environmental & sustainable ecosystem development issues.

Containing papers presented at the Ninth International Conference in the well-established conference series on Ecosystems and Sustainable Development, this book originates from the work of the late Nobel laureate, Ilya Prigogine, and challenges us to develop the new science of “ecodynamics,” integrating thermodynamics, ecology and economics. It covers not only novel research related to ecological problems from all over the world, but also new emergent ideas arising from the cross fertilisation of different disciplines, including evolutionary thermodynamics and biodiversity, structures in ecosystems modelling and landscapes, mathematical models and eco-informatics, to mention but a few.The papers in the book cover such topics as: Ecosystems modelling; Natural resources management; Environmental indicators and measurements; Sustainable development and planning; Data mining applications; Energy and the environment; Soil contamination and recovery; Water resources issues; Waste management; Ecotoxicity; Ecosystems maintenance; Ecosystems and climate change; Environmental economics and benefit analysis; Recovery of damaged areas; Socio-economic areas; Environmental management; Policies and regulations; Protection and mitigation; Knowledge dissemination and internet applications; Ecological services; Innovation in ecosystems management; Landscape development and management.
This conference promises to be both informative and stimulating with a wonderful program. Delegates will have a wide range of sessions to choose from and will have a difficult to choose which session to attend. The program consists of invited session, technical workshop and discussions covering a wide range of topics in social science including communication, culture, economics, education, finance, law, management, politics, psychology and society. This rich program provides all attendees with the opportunities to meet and interact with one another. We hope that your experience with SSEP2014 is a fruitful and long lasting one.
Ecosystems and Human Well-Being is the first product of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, a four-year international work program designed to meet the needs of decisionmakers for scientific information on the links between ecosystem change and human well-being. The book offers an overview of the project, describing the conceptual framework that is being used, defining its scope, and providing a baseline of understanding that all participants need to move forward. The Millennium Assessment focuses on how humans have altered ecosystems, and how changes in ecosystem services have affected human well-being, how ecosystem changes may affect people in future decades, and what types of responses can be adopted at local, national, or global scales to improve ecosystem management and thereby contribute to human well-being and poverty alleviation. The program was launched by United National Secretary-General Kofi Annan in June 2001, and the primary assessment reports will be released by Island Press in 2005. Leading scientists from more than 100 nations are conducting the assessment, which can aid countries, regions, or companies by: providing a clear, scientific picture of the current sta
