Excerpt from An Arrangement of the Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs, of the Rev. Isaac Watts, D.D: Including (What No Other Volume Contains) All His Hymns, With Which the Vacancies in the First Book Were Filled Up in 1786, and Also in 1793 If the Psalm be too long for the time or custom of singing, there are pauses in many of them, at which you may properly rest. And in some places 3ou may begin to sing at a pause. Or you may leave out those verses, in the Psalms and Hymns, which are included in crotchets without disturbing the sense. Do not always confine yourself to six stanzas, but sing seven or eight rather than confound the sense, and abuse the Hymn or Psalm in solemn worship. Excerpt from An Arrangement of the Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs of Isaac Watts For offering this pocket edition of Watts and Rippon to the public, and particularly to the Baptits denomination, the publisher is confident that no apology will be required. In May, 1827, the first improved edition of Watts and Rippon was published; since which, there have been about thirty thousand copies published. About five years ago the denomination called for a large or pulpit size, which the publisher gave as soon as circumstances would admit; and within the last two years a loud call has been made for a pocket edition; and the publisher, always anxious to accommodate the denomination and the public, has had a handsome edition prepared, which is here presented to the denomination for their approbation. This edition corresponds precisely with the large and middle sizes. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
